If you look back at the beginning of your career and don't cringe a little bit, are you even growing?

As educators and clinicians, we put an immense amount of pressure on ourselves to have it all figured out on day one. The thing about your first year (and every year really!) is that you will make mistakes. Looking back years later and wondering what you were thinking is just proof of your professional evolution.

Her biggest piece of advice for new teachers and therapists? Build your village.

Ask the hard questions.

Lean on your mentors.

Collaborate with administrators, other teachers and the related service providers - these people will become you go tos!

True professional growth doesn't stop after year one. We will forever be constantly learning, even from graduate students who bring fresh eyes and novel ideas to the table.

To the new graduates and first-year professionals stepping into the schools: Take a deep breath. You don't need to know everything right now. Just keep learning.

"You end up taking on more than you should... and you can't properly support them."

Erin hits on a massive issue in education right now when asked what would make her walk away from a job offer. When service minutes are too high and caseloads are too big, it becomes a physical impossibility to do the job right.

The heartbreaking reality? The kids who truly need and deserve these services get shortchanged, while the educators burn themselves out trying to make the impossible work.

It shouldn't be a choice between your mental health and the students you love.

Accommodations shouldn't be a curiosity for kids. They should just be the norm.

Since we have a student in our class who is totally blind, I wanted to open up a conversation about Braille with the rest of the first graders. Exposing them to different ways of reading and writing helps build a supportive community where everyone feels like they belong.

This is how we build a world where nobody feels left out.

Who says you need to write to build a universe? 🚀✨

For my students who are still mastering braille, we don’t let the lack of a pencil slow down our imagination. I used a playful story prompt about a "crazy dream" to teach the fundamentals of storybuilding, character design, and descriptive details.

When you listen closely, you realize their minds are already full of rockets, the moon, and... wait, how did our dogs get up there?! 🐶🧑‍🚀 Turn on the sound to hear how a simple conversation becomes a launchpad for literacy.

"Are you ready to... WORK! Let's do it!" 🎉

Transitioning a student into learning mode takes patience, structure, and a whole lot of heart. We love this look into a morning routine that prioritizes self-regulation and student choice.

Why is this approach so powerful?
1️⃣ It builds body awareness: Checking in on calm bodies, quiet feet, and listening ears helps students mentally and physically prepare for focus.
2️⃣ It offers control: Giving a student a choice (even simple ones, like choosing between Jack Hartmann or Gracie's Corner ABCs) fosters an environment of mutual respect. Even if they choose not to decide, the invitation to participate in their own learning journey is always open.

If you think you've heard every excuse in the book, try working with a creative student who really doesn't want to read braille today. 📚😂

Caden threw everything at me: fatigue, sudden arm pain, and finally... "weird fingers." Honestly, the creativity level is a solid 10/10. You just have to laugh and keep moving!
