•
Ida B, Wells was an African-American wife, mother, educator and early leader in the Civil Rights Movement, having been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War at the age of 16. This makes her one of the most famous black women during her time. In 1910, she started the Negro Fellowship League, which helped find housing, jobs and provided a social and political outlet for black people in Chicago.
