Here's my critiqu of today's BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Jobs Numbers
1. 162,000 non-farm jobs were created in in August.
2. 13.1 million (-400,000 versus last month) = 7 mil. (+100,000 versus last mont) Unemployed + 4.4 mil. (-400,000 versus last month) Involuntarily working part-time + 1.7 mil (-100,000 versus last month) are not even counted = 13.1 million workers (-400,000 versus last month) who are either unemployed or underemployed!
3. The broad measure of unemployment and underemployment (also known as U6) that includes Americans stuck in part-time jobs or too discouraged to look for work is at 7.9% = about 1 in 13 persons you meet!
4. BLS said that the National Unemployment rate stayed the same in August at 4.1%
5. Illinois unemployment fell .2% to 4.9% in July (latest figures).
6. The labor participation rose .2% to 61.6%.
7. Average hourly earnings Gained 10 cents to $37.75 in August.
8. The average work week rose .1 hours to 34.4 hours in August.
9. The JOB GAINS were in a) Health care ONLY adding 13,000 jobs, BELOW the pace of the pace of the last 12 months of 32,000 jobs created per month b) Food & Drinking Places added 59,000 new jobs c) Local Government Education added 42,000 new jobs d) Manufacturingcontinued its upward pace and added 16,000 new jobs and e) Construction added 22,000 jobs.
10. The sector with the biggest losses was Information, which lost 23,000 jobs in August!

Will future your kid's foods like an apple be as nutritious? It appears that research predicts that climate change will render foods like your current apple less nutritious for future generations.

Almost every aspect of our food system will be transformed by climate change.

Do you agree with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's extremely severe punishment with one of the harshest penalties in league history to the Los Angeles Clippers and owner Steve Ballmer, for what it called a “flagrant violation” of its salary-cap rules?

The league fined the franchise $30 million and stripped it of five first-round draft picks for “flagrant violations” of salary-cap rules to pay superstar Kawhi Leonard.

Were you aware that Space 'JUNK' is crowding up low-earth orbit! There is more man-made material in space than ever before, raising concerns about collisions that could damage or destroy satellites. SpaceX’s Starlink satellites are already changing course more often to dodge potential hazards, and at least 41,000 more satellites are expected to be deployed to low-Earth orbit by 2034.

The proliferation of man-made material circling the planet is raising concerns over potential collisions.

New interview strategies are being engineered to screen out scammers: Employers Are Making Job Candidates Jump Through Hoops to Prove They’re Real! There’s a new frontier in job interviews and it goes something like this, "Remove your Zoom background and pan your camera around the room. Now, could you please wave your hand in front of your face?" Employers want to ensure the people they’re hiring really know what they’re talking about and are who they say they are.

The era of AI cheating, deepfakes and North Korean remote workers is ushering in new screening tactics.

Leopold Aschenbrenner: PRODIGY or CON MAN? Aschenbrenner leveraged his connections into being perceived as the ‘Nostradamus of AI’ and in turn catapulted him into leading a major artificial intelligence hedge fund. Since graduating from Columbia University in 2021 as the class valedictorian at age 19, Leopold Aschenbrenner has worked his way into the upper echelons of technology. However, several 'WARNING SIGNS' existed: 1) He had NO previous investments experience! 2) He worked for now-convicted crypto founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s compound in the Bahamas 3) He drew attention as a troublemaker among some of his bosses, according to people who worked with him! Unfortunately, investors LOST $45 BILLION!

A 24-year-old investor hailed as a visionary attracted billions—before turning into Wall Street’s latest cautionary tale.

Were you knowledgeable that besides being a great singer and entertainer, Dolly Parton was great business person? For example, Dolly Parton was thrilled when Elvis Presley wanted to record “I Will Always Love You.” Then she learned he wanted half the songwriting profits, even though he had nothing to do with the composition. Parton walked away from that deal. It was an early example of the business savvy that powered an empire spanning music, movies and Dollywood. She was fiercely protective of her songwriting catalog at a time when even the Beatles and Rolling Stones failed to maintain control. As the world remembers Parton, one of our top stories today looks at how her business instincts made her a shrewd operator in the notoriously opaque music industry.

Dolly Parton was fiercely protective of her songwriting catalog when even the Beatles and the Rolling Stones failed to maintain control. That conviction became the powering force as she expanded beyond music.

In his masterpiece, books are burned by the 'Thought Police' to prevent knowledge. Now, rare books and being mass purchased, scanned into AI models and then shredded and destroyed! https://www.wsj.com/articles/ais-need-for-content-has-put-rare-book-dealers-in-a-bind-1ac5a053

Sellers are enjoying a jump in sales but fretting over whether irreplaceable books are being “sent to the guillotine” to train large language models.
