Pipelines & Pathways is incredibly proud to partner with University Transit Service (UTS) and the UVA Center for American English Language & Culture (CAELC) to support UTS team members through the CASAS assessment!

CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) helps adult learners measure and strengthen their skills in reading, listening, speaking, and workplace communication. After completing the assessment, 11 ESL UTS team members will receive 24 hours of targeted English language learning from CAELC.

By investing in language development, we are committed to helping employees boost their workplace confidence, unlock new opportunities for career advancement, and foster a supportive, inclusive environment across the University community.

Week 2 is half-way through for our 3rd cohort of the Pathways to Success Early Childhood Educator Program... and things are moving fast! 🚀

As promised, our future educators aren’t just learning in the classroom, they are already stepping into interview rooms. 💼 Swipe to see our students putting their best foot forward and connecting with our incredible community employer partners! A big thank you to our employer partners - Bright Horizons, Bright Beginnings, Piedmont Family YMCA Early Learning, Rita's Bright Beginnings, Foundations, and others!

A core part of this initiative is ensuring that participants receive employment offers within the first couple weeks of their training. It is amazing to see their hard work, preparation, and passion for early childhood education translating directly into tangible career opportunities right before our eyes.🌟

Finding a job is just the first step toward stability, knowing how to manage that paycheck is where true financial empowerment begins!💡

We are incredibly proud to see the impact of the Pathways to Prosperity program highlighted in this beautiful story by Jen Solomon and 29News WVIR. The story features one of our superstar P&P participants, Sankofa Alkebu-Lan, who has transitioned from a program participant to a community leader, helping teach others the power of budgeting, saving, and long-term success.

A massive thank you to Victoria Maxey from the P&P team for her dedication to getting this program off the ground, and to our amazing partners, including Main TO Madison with the The Fountain Fund and United Bank for making this free financial literacy series a reality. Together, we are changing habits and creating incredible opportunities for our community! 📈 🙌

We are so excited to welcome the 3rd cohort of our Pathways to Success Early Childhood Educator Program! 🎉 Launched this past Monday, June 1st, this program is made possible through our proud partnership with the United Way of Greater Charlottesville’s Early Learning Career Launch initiative.

Over the next four weeks, these future educators are diving into intensive training, covering everything from Pediatric CPR and child development to early literacy and behavior management. 📚 The best part? During this training, students participate in interviews and will receive employment offers within the first two weeks of the program! 🤝

The support doesn’t stop after placement. They will continue working with United Way and their new employers to receive the mentoring and training they need to grow their careers in childcare. We can't wait to see the incredible impact they make in our community! 🌟

📣UVA Pipelines & Pathways, along with University Transit Service (UTS), was honored to be recognized this week by the Virginia Transit Association (VTA) for Outstanding Community Program – Workforce Development Award at the VTA Annual Conference on Wednesday, May 20th! 🏆🚌

This award recognizes the innovative HOOS Workforce Development Training Programs — including HOOS Driving, HOOS OnDemand, and HOOS FleetKeepers — which were created by UVA P&P and UTS to address critical workforce shortages while expanding access to meaningful employment opportunities in the Charlottesville community. Through this partnership, community members received paid training, workforce readiness support, industry certifications, and direct pathways into careers with UTS.

Since launching in 2023, the program has:
✅ Helped UTS achieve and maintain full CDL staffing levels
✅ Reduced overtime costs and strengthened transit operations
✅ Increased UTS OnDemand ridership by 56% while decreasing cost per ride by 27%
✅ Created career pathways for community members in the Charlottesville region
✅ Connected participants to long-term, self-sustaining careers through training, support, and community partnership

We are incredibly proud of this collaborative effort and grateful to everyone who helped make these programs a success. Together, we are building stronger workforce pathways, strengthening public transportation, and creating lasting community impact. 💙🧡
