"Why Most Owners Stall After an Acquisition"
Myth: Buying an existing practice gives you a head start.
Sort of. But not in the way most people think.
You get a head start on patients. On revenue. On a team that already knows how to run a schedule.
What you don't automatically get? Alignment.
I've watched too many new owners walk into a practice they just bought, assuming the existing team will simply adopt their vision because, well, they're the new owner now.
It doesn't work like that.
The team you inherited was built around someone else's leadership, someone else's standards, someone else's version of "how we do things here." Your name on the door doesn't change any of that overnight.
So the "head start" stalls. Fast.
Not because the practice was a bad buy. Not because the patients left. Because the brand β the actual culture, the vision, the way the team shows up every day β was never rebuilt from the inside.
Here's the part that gets skipped: before you market a single thing, you have to build the brand from the inside out. Vision first. Team alignment second. Everything else β the website, the marketing, the ads β comes after that, not before it.
If you bought a practice and it feels like you're still fighting for the same momentum you paid for, this is usually why.
Curious where other owners have hit this wall β did it show up in year one, or did it take longer to notice?
