When Healthcare Staffing Changes Communities

At Floyd Lee Locums, we believe healthcare staffing is about far more than filling a position. It is about people, relationships, and creating lasting impact for healthcare organizations, clinicians, and the communities they serve.

One story that continues to stay with us is the journey of Dr. S. and a small oncology department serving a remote community on the East Coast.

What started as a conversation around traditional locum tenens coverage quickly became something much bigger.

The facility faced a challenge many rural and remote communities know too well— limited access to oncology care, long travel times for patients, and the difficulty of building consistent specialty coverage within budget.

As conversations evolved, Dr. S. proposed an innovative solution: a hybrid model combining remote and onsite oncology coverage. Instead of temporary, part-time support, the facility was able to create reliable, full-time coverage in a way that was sustainable for both the organization and the community it served.

The impact reached far beyond staffing.

Patients who were already navigating difficult diagnoses no longer had to regularly travel hours—or even stay overnight—just to receive care. Families gained more consistency and support close to home. APPs received mentorship and guidance that helped strengthen the department itself.

And over time, what began as a locums assignment turned into something permanent. Today, Dr. S. continues serving the facility in a full-time role.

Stories like this are a reminder that thoughtful staffing partnerships can truly change the trajectory of care for a community.

At Floyd Lee Locums, we are proud to help create solutions that go beyond placement numbers—solutions built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to improving access to care where it is needed most.

Because when healthcare staffing is done thoughtfully, the impact lasts far beyond the assignment.

Thank you Locumpedia for featuring Natasha Lee and her perspective on locum tenens as a workstyle. We love sharing how locums can open new doors and help clinicians shape a life that truly fits their goals!

Many clinicians first consider locum tenens for the flexibility it offers, but according to Natasha Lee, it can be the key to transforming a career. View her full guest article at https://www.locumpedia.com/news/reinventing-a-career-in-medicine-through-locum-tenens/, or keep reading.

In our latest Locum Lens, Floyd Lee Locums (tag) CEO Natasha Lee shares why locums shouldn’t be viewed as simply a side gig or bridge to retirement. Instead, she believes it can help physicians find renewed balance after burnout, create space for family, and rediscover their passion for medicine.

She shares stories from doctors who found new meaning through locum tenens, including a refugee from Afghanistan who rebuilt his life and medical career in the US. In each case, locums offered something they couldn’t get in a traditional role: freedom to practice on their terms.

The difference between a vendor and a true partner

One of our partner hospitals in rural Ohio faced an unexpected challenge. On a Thursday afternoon, they learned they would not have a Gastroenterologist available for procedures scheduled that Monday. Canceling care would mean delayed treatment, anxious patients, disrupted schedules, and a community left without access to critical services.

They called Floyd Lee Locums looking for guidance. Instead, we delivered a solution.
The moment that call came in, our entire team mobilized. Recruiters, credentialing specialists, travel coordinators, and client support worked around the clock with one shared purpose: making sure patients in that community received the care they were counting on.

In less than 24 hours, we identified and name-cleared a physician. Throughout the weekend, our team continued working behind the scenes to finalize travel, credentialing, onboarding, and logistics so that physician could walk through the doors Monday morning ready to care for patients.

Because to us, this is never just about filling a shift.

It’s about the grandmother who kept her procedure appointment. The patient who didn’t have to travel hours for care. The hospital team who could continue serving their community without interruption.

That is continuity of care.

That is partnership.

That is the concierge approach we believe healthcare staffing should be.

Whether a facility needs support in four days or four months, our commitment remains the same: finding the right clinician for the team, the patients, and the community they serve. Because at Floyd Lee Locums, our work is personal.

Behind every clinician who arrives at the right assignment, every facility that gets the support it needs, and every patient who receives care because a staffing gap was filled, there's a team making it happen.

Today, on National Healthcare Recruiter Day, we're celebrating our Recruitment and Client Services teams—the people who build trust, solve challenges, advocate for clinicians, and create meaningful connections every day.

Their work isn't measured only in placements. It's measured in relationships, opportunities, and lives impacted.

At Floyd Lee Locums, we know that healthcare staffing is about people first.

Because It's Personal.

Thank you to our team members who bring that belief to life every day.

What Concierge Staffing Really Looks Like

At the heart of what we do is a simple belief: people matter.

Every clinician. Every client. Every partnership.

Sometimes, making an impact means solving problems that have nothing to do with staffing—but everything to do with caring for the people behind the work.

When Dr. D accepted a locums assignment with us in upstate New York, we learned he lived in Manhattan, did not drive, and suddenly had no reliable way to get from his housing to the facility each day.

The moment our Sr. Director of Business Development, Lauren, and her team heard about it, they went to work. They found a nearby Walmart, purchased a bicycle Dr. D liked, and Lauren’s dad personally assembled it. Less than 24 hours later, the bike was delivered directly to Dr. D.

What meant the most was hearing how grateful he was—not just for the bike itself, but because he felt cared for, supported, and valued.

That moment is a reflection of who we are.

Our concierge approach is not just a process or a promise. It is how we show up for people. It is the extra call, the quick solution, the personal touch, and the willingness to do whatever we can to support the clinicians and clients who place their trust in us.

Because at the end of the day, healthcare is personal, and we believe staffing should be, too.

Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of those who defended the freedoms we hold dear.

We honor the memory of our fallen heroes and recognize the families who carry their legacy. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to those currently serving and the loved ones who stand beside them.

From all of us at Floyd Lee Locums, we wish you a reflective and meaningful Memorial Day.

For locum tenens physicians, stepping into a new facility often means quickly adapting to new situations and challenges. But some physicians do more than adapt — they make a lasting impact. That’s exactly the kind of physician Dr. Ahmad Zabad is.

Known for stepping in when he’s needed most, Dr. Zabad regularly picks up last-minute shifts and supports his team without hesitation. His reliability and compassion have not gone unnoticed — he’s been recognized as Hospitalist of the Month by his facility!

Congratulations, Dr. Zabad!

For a locum tenens physician, recognition like this carries special meaning. Locums physicians are often joining established teams and caring for patients in unfamiliar environments, all while building trust in a short amount of time. To be recognized by a facility in this way speaks volumes about the impact Dr. Zabad has made on both his colleagues and the patients he serves. His recruiter, Cindy, shared, "Dr. Zabad is so easy to work with because of how kind and attentive he is."

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement. Thank you, Dr. Zabad, for the compassion, dedication, and heart you bring to medicine every day.
