The International Federation of Robotics' annual World Robotics report recently put a number on something we've been watching for a while: five million industrial robots are now operating in factories around the world—more than double the figure from seven years ago. 🤖

That's been on our minds as we've been following coverage from two major robotics conferences in the last few weeks: ROSCon in Toronto and IROS in Pittsburgh.

Keeping that many robots running takes a lot of human work behind the scenes. These systems have to be programmed and integrated into existing operations, then maintained, monitored, and overseen by people who can recognize when something isn't working and decide what to do about it. 🔧

And they're not all robotics engineers.

As robotics expands across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and other industries, it involves technicians, operations teams, project managers, and plenty of other people who may work with, support, or be responsible for these systems. 🏭

Companies adding robots to their operations aren't just posting jobs for robotics engineers; they're also looking at what their current workforce needs to learn, which roles need to change, and where they have gaps they didn't have before.

That's the conversation we're paying attention to. 👥

🤖 AI can change how work gets done. But does that mean you should cancel your plans for a new hire?
