If you follow our posts, you probably know that we take our responsibility to keep up with current technologies, trends, and their effect on the job market very seriously. That’s why we were excited to have a couple of people from our team head to Boston recently for the Robotics Summit & Expo. 🤖📍
It was clear from this year’s exhibits that AI and robotics are going to continue to play a major role in conversations about how work gets done. One of the most interesting things to see was the progress in robot dexterity, particularly in the hands. ✋
Human hands are incredibly complex, and replicating that level of flexibility and control is a major challenge. Advances in dexterity, sensors, and responsiveness are making some remarkable things possible, from sorting products and sensing pressure and temperature to rolling a ball between their fingers.
We saw some impressive humanoids, but in many ways the biggest changes weren’t in how they looked or moved, but in the intelligence driving them. What stood out most was how much progress has been made in the AI models behind the scenes. The physical capabilities continue to improve, but it's the combination of those advances and increasingly sophisticated AI that is expanding what these systems can do. When the two come together, it will be fascinating to see how they're used in real-world environments.
Of course, all this brings up a lot of questions about the future of work that are both exciting and, yes, a little unsettling. We can't predict exactly what these advancements will bring over the next several years, but we do know AI isn't going away, and it's likely to become a much bigger part of everyday business conversations as we move from theories and demonstrations to practical applications.
We're keeping a close eye on these changes to better understand how they affect the hiring market: where they're creating new job titles and opportunities, new skill requirements, and new hiring challenges. 📈
