A top-ranked in the world law firm is looking for an IT Manager to join their office in Palo Alto

Due to covid, this role will likely start virtually while the firm continues to evaluate the situation.

The IT Manager will receive a generous total compensation package in addition to bonuses awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance.

The IT Manage is responsible for managing the performance and delivery of technology business services to the office using an ITIL framework. Technology business service management will include the management of local technology staff, systems, telecommunications, services and processes to pre-determined performance standards.

· Engaging with the Director of Administration in delivering quality, customer-focused technology services to the office, including fee earners and business service departments.

· Consulting with fee earners, office administrative management, and business services departments to understand business context of the use of technology. Evaluating and recommending technology or processes in coordination with global technology management to implement improvements in its use and implementation.

*Locally implementing, adhering to, and administering globally determined technology policies, procedures, systems, and general service delivery standards. Coordinating the customization of complex applications to meet the needs of lawyers, paralegals, and staff through active consultation.

*Ensuring full compliance with security, disaster recovery, and risk management policies and processes including data backup, security, personal data protection, disaster recovery, outage communications, and incident response policies/procedures.

*Managing the delivery of end-user training, consulting, and educational programs for the office; ensuring that the content, quality, and standards of in-house training and consulting match global standards and meet local needs.

*Managing technology support operations (HelpDesk), including advanced support and resolution of problems with all firm-standard hardware, software, and/or the network. Interacting with firm subject matter experts, and third-party technical support as required.

*Participating in global Technology Department meetings to understand firm strategies, products, and services; updating the technology department on local projects; participating in vendor demonstrations; and providing local practice office feedback on new products and software updates.

*Acting as lead resource for questions on applications, processes, and services, including discussing issues, upgrades, and installations for the entire office.

*Effectively supporting the business culture of the firm (‘One-firm firm’) at all times.

We are seeking an experienced candidate who has at least 10 years of experience in startup to mature companies working, managing, and leading a small team of IT staff. This candidate will have a passion for customer service and real-world information systems technology to support development engineering teams in Waterloo Canada, our corporate business teams in Mountain View California, and our data center in Santa Clara California. The successful candidate will be strategic in planning yet pragmatic and hands-on in ex*****on and will be responsible for all aspects of the Information Technology and Data Center Infrastructure. Scope includes defining and implementing the strategic direction for IT functions in the company, developing and growing the IT team, management of all inside and outside IT and Data Center systems and services, IT budgeting and expense control, productivity improvements, evaluation and re-architecting, as necessary, corporate IT and productivity applications, movie store website, content delivery network (CDN), and business systems. Implement appropriate internal and external security to protect against attacks and service interruptions.

The ideal candidate should possess highly effective communications and leadership skills, able to communicate IT and Data Center concepts and plans effectively to executive management, and be able to operate in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will display strong teamwork and be committed to delivering great technology experiences for both our internal and external customers.

Quarterly travel to our development engineering center in Canada will be required once post-pandemic business travel has resumed.

Responsibilities

*Lead and develop the team responsible for system administration of primarily Linux systems with a strong emphasis on automated management, monitoring, and deployment tools.
*Ability to understand, listen and communicate well to senior management and propose/develop/deploy effective solutions.
*Proactively communicate and sell ideas to stakeholders and executives while building trust and credibility in the IT team’s ability to deliver.
*Lead the development of administration and monitoring solutions to ensure that our production systems can scale to a growing customer base while maintaining at least 99.99% uptime.
*Implement and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery processes.
Lead the development and operation of our growing communications and networking infrastructure.
Implement and maintain IT technologies that improve the security, scalability, and reliability of the company’s computing resources.
*Provide local, hands-on assistance to users as necessary, and manage the adds/moves/changes associated with activities in these areas: LAN/WAN, telephony, networking, occasional Windows desktop and server support, messaging, storage systems, etc.
*Provide management and rapid response to data center issues and critical system alerts.
*Develop clear IT performance metrics that measure the value to the business.

Operational Experience

*Ability to be detailed and hands-on as needed to ensure team deliveries stay on track.
*Ability to effectively communicate company strategies and lead the IT team through rapid change.
*Experience managing a mission-critical data center colocation site. Must be familiar with common enterprise server platforms.
*Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS. Must be able familiar with the setup, management, and monitoring of Linux standalone servers. Experience with automation would be an asset.
*Managed Network Switches, Routers, and Firewalls and monitoring of same.
*Common scripting technologies such as Bash, PHP, Python, etc. with an emphasis on using these tools to automate common or repetitive administration tasks.
*Knowledge of Apache, NGINX, and Tomcat Servers with administration and performance tuning experience of same.
*Configuration and maintenance of database sources i.e., PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL. Experience with clustered database administration would be an asset.
*Familiarity with network troubleshooting including common switching and routing issues, an understanding of the OSI model, and deft with packet capture and analysis tools like Wireshark.
*Familiarity with a load-balanced server pool design, multi-site traffic balancing, and failover.
*Basic administration of storage architectures.
*Administration of VMware Virtual Infrastructure, RedHat Enterprise Virtualization, or similar.
*Basic administration of Microsoft Windows Active Directory.
*Strong knowledge of IT services and protocols such as DNS, SMTP, DHCP, HTTP, TCP/IP, SSL, NFS, Syslog, etc.

Professional Qualifications

Experience — A minimum of 5 years in an IT operational management capacity. Familiarity with data center operations and large traffic volumes is preferred.

Education — A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering discipline.

Serves as the primary corporate resource for major hardware, software, and communication systems acquisition, and investment decisions. Actively participates in the institution's operating and capital budget development and monitoring processes. Assumes control of major capital expenditures once allocated by the executive team. Develops the information technology acquisition, operating, and project budgets. Authorizes expenditures and monitors expenses and outcomes.

* Strategic Planning: Play a key leadership role in ongoing strategic, tactical, and facility planning. Provide essential leadership in the institutional prioritization of information systems.

3. Make parallels between your experiences and accomplishments and the requirements of the job.

4. Prepare and practice how you hope to answers interview questions, keeping in mind what you know about the job (duties, required skills, and qualifications) and employer

5. Based on the job description and perhaps, more importantly, your research, have a list of questions prepared to increase your understanding of the job and learn more about the company and culture.
