Arrive early

Tips for Interview #1

There is nothing worse than being late for your first interview. Even though it’s not your fault -- a truck turned over on the highway or you got stuck behind a school bus -- arriving late sends the wrong message to your prospective employer, and it puts extra stress and time constraints on everyone involved. If you are going to be late, call as soon as you know. Likewise, don’t arrive too early either. Enter the lobby about 15 minutes before your meeting so you can relax and study the atmosphere. - Monster.com

Resume Mistakes #3

Leading your paragraphs with mundane or irrelevant duties. Start with the hardest hitting statement which shows that you have key skills related to the job at hand. Otherwise your reader might just skim by that description.

Resume Mistake #2

Writing a resume objective which doesn't match the job. Avoid using an objective statement which doesn't correspond well with the focus of the target job. Many job seekers now leave an objective off their resume or use a profile instead. If you include either, make sure it underscores your interest in the type of work for which you are applying.

Resume Mistake #1

Misspellings and grammatical errors are killers. Spell check then proofread by placing a finger on each word and then have your document reviewed by a career coach or a friend or family member. It's hard to catch your own mistakes, so having someone else read your resume for you will help. Reading it out loud is another option for catching mistakes.

Tip for Resume #1. Make sure your resume has dates of employment and is proofread (even if you developed it online). Also, make sure your resume is relevent to the position you seek. If you have been a forklift operator for 10 years and apply for a customer service position you need to highlight how you used customer service skills as a forklift operator. Good Luck!

Tip for finding a job. Follow up after the interview. A thank you card or email puts your name and face back into the employers mind for consideration. It shows that you are serious about the position you are looking for. Please do not follow up with frustrating nasty grams that way you may be considered for other positons.
