Friends please help us hold Northtown Kia & Kia America accountable by sharing this post.
We are requesting that Kia Motors America and Northtown Kia honor the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on our 2016 Kia Sedona and cover the full cost of the engine replacement or repair.
The vehicle had approximately 75,753 miles at the time of failure—well within the warranty limit. In January 2025, Northtown Kia replaced the timing chain and camshaft under warranty. If engine neglect existed at that time, it should have been identified and disclosed. Instead, Kia authorized warranty-covered repairs with no mention of neglect, no warnings, and no maintenance concerns reported to us.
Now, just months later, the engine seized and Kia is denying coverage, claiming retroactive neglect without evidence or prior documentation. This is unacceptable and contradicts the prior service record and warranty repairs that were already approved and completed.
We are also requesting a written explanation from Northtown Kia detailing the January diagnosis, including whether any signs of “neglect” were present at that time and why they were not communicated if so.
Our family of six, including four children, is now without reliable transportation and being quoted $10,000–$13,000 in out-of-pocket repairs for a vehicle we maintained and repaired as advised. We acted in good faith, trusted the dealership, and followed all instructions. We believe this situation may fall under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which protects against improper warranty denials.
We’re simply asking that Kia stand behind its warranty and that the dealership operate transparently and fairly. We are not seeking anything beyond what is owed under the warranty contract.
