What happens when the organization that sets HR standards is found to have broken them?

A federal jury found SHRM, the world’s largest HR association, liable for racial discrimination and retaliation. The jury awarded $11.5 million, including $1.5 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages. SHRM disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal.

Here is the lesson I take from this: Certifications and policies alone do not create competence, build culture, or guarantee alignment.

The real differentiator is how leaders and HR professionals practice ethics, live their stated values, respond when concerns are raised, and coach others to do the same.

Is At Will Employment Real in Today’s Workplace?

Real Talk, yes for employees. Not so much for employers.

Employees can leave with or without notice, although giving notice is always ideal.

For employers, at will employment is much trickier and riskier. """"At Will"" does not mean you can terminate someone without considering the potential risk.

And “we talked about it” is not documentation. The proof is in the write up, email, text message, recording, or picture. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
