In California, your employer can't forbid you from disclosing your wages, make you sign a waiver of that right, or discipline you for talking about pay (Labor Code §232). The Equal Pay Act goes further: it also protects asking about and discussing coworkers' wages to look into possible pay discrimination (§1197.5(k)). If you're punished within 90 days of exercising these rights, the law presumes retaliation.
