Spring has sprung and so have new opportunities and goals to be reached. As we get further into the year there are many trends that employers are using and refining more every day. From using advanced screening tools to offering more flexible and remote work, employers are working towards creating a greater work environment to attract top talent. Do you have something that sets you apart from the crowd?

That is the question that people ask themselves when wanting to create growth in their careers. Finding a way to make yourself the best option or only option for the position. Learning how to hone in on what you can offer to a client or company so that you can start striving towards your next goal. Now, it can be difficult to find your starting point for tackling this objective, but it doesn't have to be as changeling as one thinks.

Starting on a small or large scale is always up to you and where you are with your goals, but that doesn't make it any less intimating. Rachel Parnes shows us a great place to start or at least organize your goals and how to grow off of them. From overarching themes about your goals to the micro ideas, Parnes gives many resources and helps us dust off a jump point.

Many challenges were produced when Covid 19 became a global health crisis. One of these challenges many women are facing is the balancing of their careers as well as their personal lives. Making sure that a woman has the ability to expand within their career while also feeling as though their personal relationships and responsibilities aren't at risk. Now, this is a tall order for our current workforce without the challenges that the pandemic added. Journalist of Linkedin News, Caroline Fairchild, does a great analysis of the fastest-growing job fields for women currently as well as what challenges women face in our current job market.

This is Working Together, a weekly series on professional women and equity in the workplace. Have ideas about what we should discuss next week? Let me know in the comments using or email me at caroline@linkedin.

We all know the stress that comes with applying for a new job opportunity. Wanting to stand out from the crowd being the main concern. Unfortunately, there is another situation to worry about that women everywhere applying for jobs come across frequently, “Do I meet all of these qualifications?… No, I don't think so.” We’ve all been there thinking that maybe you don't check all the boxes, but what is holding you back from applying?

LinkedIn conducted their own research, analyzing billions of interactions between professionals, recruiters, and companies, specifically the difference between how women and men go about applying for new job opportunities. They found that women do not apply to jobs in which they believe they do not fill all of the listed requirements. As opposed to men who do not show this hesitation when applying.

The big question is, why do some feel this way when applying to jobs within their desired workplace, and how can we combat this? Finding confidence is a key factor in our decisions when putting ourselves out there. Finding the voice that tells you to go forward. Do you find yourself in this situation, or have you overcome it? We would love to hear about your experiences!

Out of 500 companies with the Fortune 500 list, there are only 41 companies that are being operated under a woman as their CEO. This number is exciting and yet keeps us wanting more! The women on this list have created a path for other women of all backgrounds to follow in their footsteps. It's powerful to see women achieving these high-level positions that have been seen in the past as a man's job, breaking stigmas left and right. We thank these women for creating a space for women in these businesses to feel as though their career goals are achievable and that the only person who can stop you is yourself.

Women of History

Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. She explored the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favorable social and economic security. Her use of biting irony, along with her realism and social commentary, has earned her acclaim among critics and scholars. Some of her works include Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, etc.

Women of History

Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and made some 13 missions to rescue 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, using the Underground Railroad. But not only was she a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, but she was also a nurse, a Union spy, and a women’s suffrage supporter. Tubman is one of the most recognized icons in American history and her legacy has inspired countless people from every race and background.
