Sometimes the best career moves aren't driven by frustration.

They're driven by growth.

Most attorneys don't start exploring new opportunities because of one difficult week. More often, they reach a point where they realize they're ready for a platform that better supports where they want to go next. And sometimes, they aren't even ready to have that conversation, but an opportunity presents itself and forces them to consider what's possible:

1. You're ready for your next level of GROWTH.
As your experience grows, your platform should grow with you. Whether you're looking for more responsibility, stronger mentorship, or greater autonomy, your environment should continue to challenge and develop you.

2. You're thinking more intentionally about your FUTURE.
Career progression looks different for every attorney. Maybe you're looking for a clearer path to partnership, stronger business development support, or a structure that better aligns with your long-term goals.

3. Your practice is EVOLVING.
As markets change and client needs shift, it's worth considering whether your current platform provides the resources, reach, and opportunities to help your practice continue to thrive.

4. Your PRIORITIES have changed.
Compensation, flexibility, culture, leadership, meaningful work—what mattered five years ago may not be what matters today. The right platform should support both your professional ambitions and your personal priorities.

5. You're envisioning WHAT'S NEXT.
If you've started thinking about where you want to be in two, five, or ten years, it's a great time to evaluate whether your current firm is the best place to help you get there.

The strongest career moves are rarely reactive...they're intentional. And you may not have considered any of these ideas under a recruiter calls you and presents you with a new opportunity.

Before making any decision, consider:

• What do I want my next chapter to look like?
• What kind of platform will help me get there?
• What matters most to me at this stage of my career?
• If I stay, will I continue moving toward my long-term goals?

Sometimes those conversations happen within your current firm, and sometimes they lead you somewhere new.

Either way, taking the time to evaluate your options doesn't mean something is wrong, or needs to be fixed. Rather, it's a responsible part of building a career with purpose and consideration.

The best opportunities aren't always about leaving; they're about finding the right platform and community for the attorney you're becoming.

Get to Know Us 👋

Recruiting is about relationships, conversations, and understanding what candidates really need from their next opportunity. Join us for a quick look at what's behind the calls, meetings, and placements!

Amanda Brandenburg, Founding Principal

Q: If you could give one interview tip, what would it be?
A: "Come prepared with valuable insights into why you would be a key contributor and help the firm understand and invision where and how you would make an impact immediately."

Q: What’s your ideal Saturday plan?
A: "A cup of good coffee, a trip to the garden store, and a day outside with my family, plants and pups. But in reality I’m usually at a sporting event with one of my three children, playing Uber to any of them, or working with my teenage son at the farmer’s market supporting his cookie cake business."

Jennifer Gotch, Managing Director

Q: What’s one thing you always try to make time for outside of work?
A: "Spending time with my family and friends! Whether it is Mahj Jong with my girlfriends, pickle ball with my son, a visit to Charlottesville to see my daughter in college, or a dinner out with my husband these are my favorite outside of work activities! I also don’t mind a good concert with my work “colleagues” as well."

Rachel Bernstein, Director of Associate Recruiting

Q: What’s the biggest mistake candidates make during interviews?
A: "The biggest mistake candidates make during interviews is not being honest. The truth ALWAYS comes out, whether through conversations, references, or a background check.

A mistake in your past may not be a dealbreaker, but dishonesty often is."

Q: What’s your ideal weekend recharge activity?
A: "My ideal weekend recharge activity is buying an overpriced coffee and taking a walk along the water on Bayshore Boulevard."

Q: What’s unique about working with Opus Lex?
A: "What makes working at OpusLex Partners unique is the level of collaboration throughout the entire process.

From joining client calls with Amanda and Jen, to discussing target candidates and strategy, or conducting phone screens and reviewing client feedback, we work together every step of the way. Some searches require even more teamwork than others, especially when we're tackling particularly challenging roles, but there isn't a day that goes by without collaboration.

Everyone has a voice, ideas are shared openly, and we're constantly learning from one another. Our team-oriented approach not only makes us better recruiters, but also makes OpusLex a genuinely great place to work."

We’re grateful for the relationships we’ve built with attorneys, law firms, and legal teams in the Southeast and beyond, and looking forward the second half of 2026!

Corporate legal teams: do you need to hire?

When legal becomes a bottleneck, outside counsel spend keeps climbing, or your team is constantly in reactive mode, it may be time to consider adding another attorney.

The right hire can help reduce risk, improve turnaround times, and give the business the legal support it needs to keep moving forward.

Ever wonder what law firms really mean when they say they want "business development potential?"

What they’re really looking for are signs that an attorney can build trust, understand clients’ businesses, communicate commercially, and eventually become someone who helps grow the practice.

Business development potential is not just about “selling.”

It’s about relationship-building, judgment, visibility, initiative, and the ability to think beyond the legal assignment.

For attorneys, the takeaway is simple: start building those muscles before you need them.

Because by the time you’re being evaluated for counsel, partner, or a senior lateral move, firms are already looking for evidence that you can do more than excellent legal work.

What do you think is the strongest sign that an attorney has real business development potential?

For candidates, contract/interim roles present the flexibility to assess the role, company and team culture prior to making a full-time commitment.

In addition, contract/interim work allows for a seamless transition if you are in between roles, and grants the opportunity to maintain an active resume and network with additional legal professionals.
