SCSAR had a blast working with Rescue Divas ! This is our 10th year!

08/05/2026

The Rescue Divas stopped by Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center today as part of their weeklong, hands-on EMS camp for 5th–8th grade girls. This unique program introduces participants to emergency medical services through fun, interactive training like first aid, CPR, search-and-rescue skills, and behind-the-scenes tours. We look forward to hosting them each year!

✅️ Rescue Divas Day 3!

Well the day started with much (short-lived) excitement as we were so close to a helicopter landing at camp...a fly over was all we got this time but 🤞🤞🤞🤞 that we have better luck tomorrow!

We are really missing not having Long Island Tae Kwon Do this year but Erika found a well made online video on "Situational Awareness for Teens" which led to a great discussion on staying safe on scene and just life in general. An important topic that Masters Todd & Jill weave into their usual self defense session. We hope they'll be back next year!

Our very own Skyler of Northwest Wisconsin CEP was up next with her "Hired: Rescue Divas Edition" presentation which covers so many important soft skills like communication and teamwork.

The whole afternoon was spent with the amazing Sawyer County Search And Rescue team! The girls learned about tracking, working with 3 types of search & rescue canines and a mock search to find Erika and Skyler who got "lost" in the woods. Too many photos to share tonight so here are just a few for now and will share more in the future (mostly of the dogs!🐾).

The night was finished with swimming & BINGO!

✅️ Rescue Divas Day 2!

Day 2 - the first full day - always focuses on training! Today, it was First Aid, Stop the Bleed and CPR "Family & Friends" Training - all done by Erika with help from our counselors.

Once the day's training was complete, everyone ventured up to Crosswood's fabulous high ropes course. Participation was optional (see group photo of those that completed the course) but climbers and non-climbers all cheered on their fellow campers as many had to face their fears to get up to the top (after passing "ground school" first!).

After dinner, we had special visitors Tara and Gwen from Mellen Fire & Rescue show the girls the ins and outs of their ambulance and share their experience as EMTs.

To wrap up the night, we had our "craft night" painting fairy jars and rocks!

The 10th session of Rescue Divas EMS Camp for Girls is off to a fantastic start!

Our first afternoon and evening were all about getting to know each other, exploring Crosswoods Camp, and meeting some of their wonderful staff. After dinner, the learning officially began with a special visit from the K9 units of the Ashland County and Bayfield County Sheriff's Departments.

Dogs are always a big hit at Rescue Divas, and Doc, Zeke, and Crosswoods' resident pup Porter definitely didn't disappoint! 🐾

We wrapped up a beautiful summer night the best way possible—with s'mores around the campfire, a little more volleyball, and plenty of fun hanging out in the game room. Looking forward to another great day tomorrow!
