Elephant Home Stay Khun Chai Thong, Surin We work alongside the Gwi community in the Surin Province in North East Thailand.

The Khun Chai Thong Surin Project is a unique concept aimed at improving the living conditions of captive Asian elephants by providing economic sustainability for their owners through responsible volunteer tourism. The Khun Chai Thong’s main focus is to get the elephants off of the street and out into more natural surroundings where volunteers can walk alongside them and observe these magnificent

creatures acting like elephants should be. This offers the mahouts who own the elephants an alternative form of employment to elephant riding or elephant shows which are the main forms of income for many mahouts in the area to support their elephants and families.

Elephant Home Stay Khun Chai Thong would like to share our concern regarding the coronavirus (Covid-19), and express our sympathy to all those who have been affected. Obviously, the coronavirus has had a huge impact on the number of people traveling, and in turn, visiting our ethical elephant project in Thailand. We hope that the situation is resolved as soon as possible for the benefit of all, as well as the sustainability of our project. In the meantime, we will continue to do our best to provide a better life for the elephants in our care. Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support. We will get through this together!!

The herd chilling in the afternoon together at Elephant Homestay Khun Chai Thong.

No more long days walking the hot, noisy streets for these elephants. Now their feet touch the earth as nature intended and their days are
spent eating, socializing as a herd, swimming, and playing in the mud.

Happy Herd at Elephant Homestay Khun Chai Thong

You can see how much happier the herd is now that they have been rescued from street begging and performing in circuses. Finally, they are able to live a more natural life - free from hunger, free from fear, free from exploitation. For the elephants at Elephant Homestay Khun Chai Thong, a new life has begun where they can heal, express their instincts and socialize as a herd💚.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who have helped the elephants here enjoy a better life and for supporting the local community.
