เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤศจิกายน 2568 สำนักงานอนุภูมิภาคแห่งองค์การพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNIDO) ประจำประเทศไทยได้ร่วมกับกรมควบคุมมลพิษ (คพ.) และศูนย์ความเป็นเลิศด้านการจัดการสารอันตราย (ศสอ.) จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในการเยี่ยมชมบริษัท บีเอ็มที เอเชีย จำกัด ณ โรงงานในนิคมอุตสาหกรรมบางปู จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ
วัตถุประสงค์ของการเยี่ยมชมครั้งนี้คือเพื่อพบปะกับทีมผู้บริหารของบีเอ็มที เอเชีย ศึกษาเทคโนโลยีการบำบัดปรอทของบริษัท และประเมินความเหมาะสมต่อการดำเนินงานตามพันธกรณีของประเทศไทยภายใต้อนุสัญญามินามาตะว่าด้วยปรอท องค์การพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNIDO) กำลังดำเนินโครงการเพื่อเสริมสร้างขีดความสามารถของประเทศในการปฏิบัติตามพันธกรณีภายใต้อนุสัญญามินามาตะว่าด้วยปรอท และสนับสนุนการนำบทบัญญัติของอนุสัญญาดังกล่าวไปสู่การปฏิบัติอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ (UNIDO ID 190139, GEF ID: 10983) โครงการนี้ได้รับการสนับสนุนงบประมาณจากกองทุนสิ่งแวดล้อมโลก (Global Environment Facility: GEF) โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเสริมสร้างขีดความสามารถของภาครัฐของประเทศไทยในการจัดทำทำเนียบการปล่อยและปลดปล่อยปรอทระดับประเทศ ตลอดจนการจัดทำแผนการดำเนินงานระดับชาติ

กรอบนโยบายและกฎระเบียบของประเทศไทยเกี่ยวกับการจัดการปรอทมีพื้นฐานจากพันธกรณีภายใต้อนุสัญญามินามาตะ และเสริมด้วยกฎหมายระดับชาติ เช่น พระราชบัญญัติส่งเสริมและรักษาคุณภาพสิ่งแวดล้อมแห่งชาติ และกฎระเบียบเกี่ยวกับสารอันตราย กรอบเหล่านี้เน้นการควบคุมการจัดหาปรอท การจัดการผลิตภัณฑ์และของเสียที่มีปรอทอย่างถูกต้องตามหลักสิ่งแวดล้อม และการลดการปล่อยปรอทในภาคส่วนสำคัญ ผู้ให้บริการด้านเทคนิคที่มีศักยภาพ เช่น บีเอ็มที เอเชีย มีบทบาทสำคัญในการสนับสนุนความพยายามของประเทศไทยในการปฏิบัติตามข้อกำหนด โดยการนำเสนอแนวทางและเทคโนโลยีด้านการบำบัดที่สอดคล้องกับกฎหมายและข้อกำหนดระดับชาติ ตลอดจนพันธกรณีระหว่างประเทศ
บริษัท บีเอ็มที เอเชีย ใช้เทคโนโลยีระบบการแยกปรอทด้วยความร้อนขั้นสูง เพื่อการนำปรอทกลับมาใช้ใหม่ โดยมีกำลังการบำบัดประมาณ 2,800 ตันต่อปี กระบวนการดำเนินงานเป็นระบบปิด ซึ่งช่วยควบคุมการปล่อยสารอย่างเข้มงวดและเป็นไปตามมาตรฐานสากล ทั้งนี้ ปรอทที่ได้รับการกู้คืนจะผ่านกระบวนการทำให้บริสุทธิ์ และนำไปจัดจำหน่ายให้แก่ผู้ได้รับอนุญาตตามกรอบกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้อง
On 27 November 2025, UNIDO Sub-Regional Office in Thailand joined colleagues from the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and Centre of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) of Chulalongkorn University for a visit to BMT Asia Co., Ltd. at their facility in Bangpoo Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan.
The purpose of the visit was to engage with BMT Asia’s management team, learn about their mercury-treatment technologies, and assess their relevance for Thailand’s implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury. UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization has an on-going project, "Strengthen national capacity to fulfill obligations under the Minamata Convention on Mercury and promote effective implementation of its provisions. (UNIDO ID 190139, GEF ID: 10983)" This project is funded by the Global Environment Facility to strengthen the Thai government capacity to develop a national inventory of emissions and releases of mercury and National implementation plan.

Thailand’s policy and regulatory framework on mercury management is anchored in its obligations under the Minamata Convention, complemented by national legislation such as the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act and hazardous substances regulations. These frameworks emphasize the control of mercury supply, the environmentally sound management of mercury-containing products and waste, and the reduction of emissions and releases across key sectors. Possible technical service providers like BMT Asia play an important role in supporting Thailand’s compliance efforts by offering treatment solutions that align with both national regulations and international commitments.
BMT Asia operates advanced thermal desorption systems for mercury recovery, with a treatment capacity of ~2,800 tons/year.
Their closed-system processes ensure strict emission control and compliance with international standards. Recovered mercury is purified and supplied to authorized users in line with regulatory frameworks.
