The KVAβs latest project is the south Sudan camp, This early year, we are running series of peace building workshop, the South Sudan Camp in which we will be conducting media literacy for 40 young south Sudanese under theme of Video Activism and ICT Activism. The Workshops are literally aimed at fighting hate speech that is rampant in the use of social media that contribute in adding salt to already existing wound of this young nation.
Camp is to teach youths on effective use of the Internet and the related ICT Skills and Tools including Open Educational Resource to build peace. In this way we will be able to reduce the use of social media platform to incite or fuel existing conflict. We know very well that the recent conflict that erupted in 15, December 2013, to some extends is attributed to negative use of the Internet by the youths to fuel the continuation of the crisis South Sudan is facing. South Sudan, as a young nation, is facing a lot of problems. Political instability and illiteracy happen to be drowning and swallowing the sovereignty, peace and prosperity of this young nation. As a result of this more effort is need to educate the youths in the use of Internet to build peace rather than use it to incite violence. In the camp, where youths coming from across the 10 states of South Sudan and the international participants will put their heads down to foster ways of how best Internet can be used to fight social media extremism. The youths will also be mentored in career development geared into creating sustainable self-employment opportunities. This will address the problem of idle youths, who have no skills to apply in the rapidly changing south Sudan. South Sudan is a consuming nation with no manufacturing industries; as of this the country is hit by economic crisis, which renders no hope for energetic youths to engage in other than resorting to criminal act. This is obviously a big issue to solve but with your moral support and effort, I believe we can make a difference in South Sudan. So my dear brothers and sisters, join us in the making of South Sudan Camp that is due to come in November 2015.
