Ummi Kalsum Ali repeatedly assaulted the 51-year-old maid until she became blind. The victim was left in a wheelchair at the airport to find her own way home.

In general, Singapore employers are taking good care of the helpers (MDWs) with the support of our local govt. There is a shift in employers' mindset as compared to 10-20 years ago.
In fact, I would say that most employers in SG are inclusive and bonding well with their domestic helps.

To be fair to employers and these MDWs, employers and MDWs should have an open communication and employers should understand that most of these ladies came from rural countries with different cultures and hygiene standards.
Hence, employers should clearly explain their requirements as well as the expectations.

Similarly, MDWs should be mentally prepared before going abroad to work.
Never treat your overseas work as a holiday solely because when you enter into a contract, you have your main responsibility to fulfill.
Do not take your employers for granted and ignore the briefings from your employers.

It is essential to know the requirements of your employers and work towards having a cordial relationship with your employers. Similarly for employers, do try to iron the differences and talk to your agencies if you need help.

The usage of social media is very rampant and we cannot deny that it has indeed helped us in many of our lives! Our helpers are briefed about the Dont's ❌ of taking conspicuous photos/videos in employers' house and are warned against doing so.
Singapore is a country with strict laws and we wish that all our Migrant Domestic workers adhere to our laws and do not put themselves into jeopardy in the name of fun.

Negligence and taking things for granted resulting in unwanted tragedy. It is no need for more explanation why we always explain to our helpers the importance of staying vigilant at all times when taking care of young children.

An innocent life lost in matters of minutes.
