Still crossing oceans at 92!

Last week, in San Francisco, i had the opportunity to catch up with a very dear friend, Warwick 'Commodore' Tompkins. At the age of 92, Commodore is about to embark on what may be his final ocean crossing, sailing across the vast Pacific. I'm saying 'maybe' as he told me that he still has a book to write when he get's back and with his unwavering passion for the sea and adventurous spirit there is no telling what he might be planning next.

I first met Commodore on the dock in Tahiti some 20 years ago, and our shared love for the ocean quickly turned us into lifelong friends. His stories of adventure and resilience have been a source of inspiration ever since.

Commodore Tompkins' journey is a testament to the power of following one's passion. Throughout his life, he has navigated the world's oceans, faced countless challenges, and created unforgettable memories. His dedication and love for sailing inspire us all to pursue our dreams, no matter where they may lead.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, let us remember that it's never too late to chase our passions and live a life filled with purpose and adventure. Commodore Tompkins reminds us that the sea of life is vast and full of possibilities—it's up to us to set sail and explore it.

Do you remember your first day at work?

Many moons ago i hired this enthusiastic bunch as interns for Microsoft. They were full of energy and had heaps of potential. 12 years on they are successful leaders and employers in their own right identifying and hiring the next generation of talent.

I've been fortunate in life to be surrounded by many fabulous women.

These pictures remind me of a special time when our girl tribe came together to sail to the equator as part of the Neptune Regatta. Sailing offshore was just part of the adventure as the onshore preparations prior to departure were just as necessary. Sail training, food prep, customs clearance and of course the much debated costumes to celebrate the crossing itself.

'Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much' and of course none of this could have been done without the tremendous support of our male allies.

One year ago, a last minute meeting request was placed in my calendar by my GM, including an ominous representative from HR. I knew instantly the meeting content and spent that evening and much of the night uncertain as to what this would mean for my family and I.

Fast forward 12 months and I could not be more grateful for the gift of redundancy and the opportunity it presented to completely pivot my life and give me back the luxury of time to stop and hear the ocean.
