Coming to Poland from Asia or Africa? Here are some important tips to help you prepare for your trip:
𝟭. 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
- Make sure you apply for the appropriate visa (Schengen or national) well in advance. Check the website of the Polish embassy in your country for the necessary documents.
- Don't forget to bring a valid passport, travel insurance and any necessary permits or letters (e.g. for study or work).
𝟮. 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
- Check with your physician for regarding recommended vaccinations for Europe. There are currently no mandatory vaccinations in Poland, but it's a good idea to be up to date with routine vaccinations.
- Consider purchasing a health insurance policy to cover medical expenses while in Poland.
𝟯. 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴:
- The weather in Poland can vary greatly depending on the season. Winters (November-March) can be cold with snow, so pack warm clothes (coats, scarves, gloves). Summers (June-August) are milder, but still bring a light jacket for cooler days.
- Don't forget comfortable shoes - you'll be walking a lot in Polish cities!
𝟰. 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
- Poland uses the Polish zloty (PLN), not the euro. It's a good idea to exchange some cash in advance or withdraw cash from ATMs upon arrival.
- Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it's always useful to have some cash for small purchases.
𝟱. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲:
- Poles are generally polite and hospitable. Learning a few basic phrases in Polish (such as "Dzień dobry" - good morning, and "Dziękuję" - thank you) will be appreciated.
- Public transportation is efficient, but always buy a ticket and validate it. Fines for not having a valid ticket are high!
𝟲. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀:
- Poland is a safe country for travelers, but as in any place, be aware of your surroundings and take care of your belongings.
- Smoking is prohibited in many public places, and drinking alcohol in public places (parks, streets) is prohibited.
𝟳. 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗜𝗠 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆:
- It's easy to buy a local SIM card for your phone at any kiosk or airport. Many carriers offer cheap data plans.
𝟴. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
- Poland has a well-connected public transportation system (buses, trams, trains). Apps like Google Maps or JakDojadę will help you navigate.
- Taxis are available, but it's better to use apps like Uber or Bolt for fair prices.
