12 faculty members from Punjab University have not returned after receiving government-funded scholarships to pursue PhDs abroad. These teachers were required to serve at the university for five years after completing their studies but failed to rejoin.
Punjab University has now dismissed the teachers and initiated legal action to recover the scholarship funds, which total in crores. The university has also contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Interior Ministry to block their passports and take further action.
The administration is working with concerned authorities to ensure accountability. Officials aim to recover the funds and strengthen future scholarship monitoring.
