Latest on Deck | More Cruise Career Opportunities, Now Closer to Filipino Talent

Viking Cruises, in partnership with Magsaysay Maritime Corporation, brought its Career Talk to Magsaysay Cebu for the first time on August 10 and 11, opening more opportunities for Filipino cruise and hospitality professionals.

Around 100 participants joined the Cebu session and heard firsthand from Viking crew members about life onboard and career growth at sea. Principal interviews were also conducted in Manila (August 5-6) and Cebu (August 10-11) , giving more Filipino applicants the chance to connect directly with Viking representatives.

Through initiatives like these, Magsaysay continues to bring meaningful career opportunities closer to Filipino professionalsโ€”helping build a skilled, confident, and future-ready workforce for the global cruise industry. โš“

Urgent SRB/SID Need? MARINA Issues Temporary Certification

Following the system issue that affected SRB and SID issuance, MARINA has introduced a temporary certification process for seafarers with immediate and confirmed deployment whose documents cannot be printed on the day of application.

The certification may be issued to qualified seafarers scheduled to depart on the same day or the following day, supported by a DMW-approved employment contract. This interim measure will remain in place until further notice from MARINA.

Magsaysay has cascaded the latest guidance to its crewing teams and continues to coordinate with MARINA to help minimize documentation and deployment disruptions. Crew with urgent deployment concerns are advised to coordinate closely with their assigned crewing team. โš“

Going Ashore in the U.S.? Your I-95 Is Now Digital

Effective July 1, 2026, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection began issuing electronic Crewmanโ€™s Landing Permits (Form I-95). A new permit is issued for every arrival and landing request, and only the most recent I-95 can be retrieved.

Before leaving the vessel, access your current permit through the CBP I-94/I-95 online portal or the CBP Link mobile app using your passport details. Keep it available on your phone or carry a printed copy while ashore.

Stay informed and follow your vesselโ€™s procedures to avoid delays or issues with shore leave. Your permit, your responsibilityโ€”check before you disembark. โš“๐Ÿ“ฑ

Your Safety Comes First in the Northern Black Sea

The DMW has issued Advisory No. 50, Series of 2026, strengthening protection for Filipino seafarers as the Northern Black Sea remains under Crisis Alert Level 4 and classified as a high-risk, warlike operations area.

Deployment to affected routes and ports is temporarily suspended. Seafarers onboard vessels at risk must be safely relocated or repatriated, while injured crew must receive immediate medical care. Their employment rights, compensation, insurance, and benefits remain fully protected.

Magsaysay continues to closely monitor the situation, coordinate with principals, and strengthen safeguards for affected crew. Stay alert and follow official safety instructions. โš“
