MOL Marks Installation of Wind Challenger Hard-Sail Propulsion System on In-service Coal Carrier for J-Power

The Kurotakisan Maru Ⅲ has drawn attention in the shipping industry for contributing to decarbonization while fulfilling a vital role in energy transport that supports local communities. It received a warm welcome from local stakeholders upon arrival at its unloading ports. The vessel is scheduled to operate on a long-term contract to transport thermal coal from overseas to multiple regions where J Power operates power plants and related facilities.

MOL has set the target of achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 in the "MOL Group Environmental Vision: BLUE ACTION 2035 Phase 2." One of the main actions to achieve this target is the "introduction of further energy-saving technologies," and the group plans to launch 25 vessels equipped with the Wind Challenger by 2030, increasing to 80 by 2035.

The Wind Challenger is a device developed by MOL and Oshima Shipbuilding that converts wind energy to propulsive force using telescoping hard sails

The crew of Splash Philippines played a rail-ly important role in the future of Metro Manila’s transit system. They were the ones who shipped the very first MRT-7 train cars all the way to Manila Port! 🌊🚆

Their shipment carried the modern electric train sets that will soon run along the 22.8-kilometer MRT-7 line, connecting North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, cutting travel time from almost 2 hours to just 35 minutes!

With 14 stations, high-speed electric trains, and a projected daily ridership of up to 850,000 passengers, MRT-7 is set to become a game-changer for commuters. And it all started with a smooth splash landing, thanks to the hardworking seafarers who brought these trains across oceans and into the heart of the Philippines.
