One of the most common interview questions I hear from applicants is:

"Why are they asking me questions that aren't even on my resume?"

Here's the reality.

Your resume tells interviewers about your qualifications, experience, and achievements.

The interview is where they get to understand something a resume can't fully capture—how you think, communicate, solve problems, and approach different situations.

That's why you might be asked about challenges you've faced, decisions you've made, or what motivates you. These questions aren't meant to catch you off guard. They're an opportunity to add context to the experiences listed on your resume.

Every interviewer and every organization has its own approach, but one thing remains true:

A resume introduces your experience.

A conversation introduces you.

The first few minutes of an interview often feel like the most intimidating part.

Many applicants think every word or movement is being judged.

The reality is a little different.

In most interviews, recruiters are trying to understand who you are, how you communicate, and whether your experience matches what the role requires. It's less about finding reasons to reject someone, and more about gathering enough information to make a fair assessment.

Every recruiter, hiring manager, and company has its own approach, but understanding what usually happens behind the hiring desk can help replace assumptions with confidence.

I saw something interesting while reviewing resumes.

Two applicants can have almost the same experience...

But one gets a call.

The other doesn't.

Why?

Because recruiters aren't just checking where you've worked.

We're looking at how you present yourself.

Can we contact you easily?

Did you actually do work that's relevant to the role?

Can you show results instead of just listing responsibilities?

Does your resume tell me you're a good fit... or does it make me guess?

Those are the little things that make a big difference.

I still see these mistakes... every single week.

And the frustrating part?

Some of these applicants are actually qualified.

But their resume gets in their own way.

A typo here.

A resume sent to every job without changing anything.

Or a list of responsibilities that doesn't tell me what they actually achieved.

The little things matter more than most people think.

Take two minutes to review your resume before sending it out. It could make the difference between getting ignored and getting that interview invitation.

I probably shouldn't admit this... 😅

But recruiters don't read every resume from top to bottom.

When there are hundreds of applications, we naturally scan first before deciding to read more.

That's why I always tell people:

Don't make recruiters look for your strengths.

Make them impossible to miss.

That's what this video is about.
