2ND. OFFICER - INSPECTION CHECK LIST
REMEMBER than FIRST impression is very important!
Item Description
1 Navigation equip. is in good working condition, maintainance records is kept.
2 Wheelhouse poster shall state as per IMO res. A.601(15).
3 Evidence of 2 independent method of pos. fix. when entering port & at deep sea passage.
4 All Charts and publications for present trade are corrected to the last NTM.
5 Chart corr. log record of NC editions maintained & Master weekly insp. Recorded.
6 Courses to be compared on each course alter. & at least once p/watch, even on pilotage.
7 Nav. Warn. (NAVTEX/MSI) & P&T to be charted or entered on ECDIS if applicable.
8 NAVTEX equip. shall be set up to the nearest stattions during the voyage.
9 NAVTEX equip. shall be set up to receive mandatories messages.
10 GPS adjusted to the correct chart datum and same stated on passage plan and on charts.
11 All required Nautical publications are up to date & inventory available.
12 All navigating lights are in good working order, show insp. how test lights alarm.
13 Steering Gear block diagram with auto to manual changeover procedures posted.
14 Echo sounder ON/OFF marked on charts. OOW to show previous depth if memory available.
15 AIS notices are displayed and OOW familiar with ISGOTT recommendations
16 AIS properly set up and on LOW power transmition, if on.
17 Radar Notice regarding LOG speed for anticollision purposes shall be posted
18 VHF OFF or Low power and HF connected to earth.
19 ECDIS Notice "Not to be used as primary method of navigation" if applicable
20 ECDIS familiarization evidence (DLB, certificate & check list).
21 NAVTEX filing system to be maintained T&P & Nav. Warn. Files as well
22 The Master/Pilot inform. exch. form. If inf. from pilot missing, record in DLB.
23 Pilot card max. Shall stated Bollard pull when used and Bridge clearance as well if applicable
24 VDR last annual perf. test record available.
25 Procedures for preserving the data in the VDR is displayed at the VDR console
26 All log books are updated and signed. Safety rounds done by OOW after watch.
27 Radar log filled with full details.Perf. Mon. test to be done at end of each watch.
28 Dig.L. of lights CD to kept at least 1 year & Back up for DLL's available in another PC.
29 Compass error calc. on each watch, shall kept 6 entries daily when at anchor or at sea
30 GMDSS- ops procedure displayed/how to do disterss call
31 Rechargable batteries accumulator to be tested annually when at port.
32 GMDSS Log Book: relevant entries as per BOM, daily, weekly and monthly test.
33 GMDSS Log Book: EPIRB test prior departure.
34 GMDSS Log Book: 3rd. Officer to open GMDSS station when 2nd. Off. On resting hours.
35 DLB Daily: Bosun reports all deck stores secured and W/T doors closed, between 1700-1800
36 DLB dep: All deck stores, W/T doors and ventings closed and secured for sea passage.
37 DLB: Arr. & dep. "Ch. Officer verified ship's stability & Ship's strength, all found ok".
38 BNWAS tested weekly/monthly and recorded on DLB, time of swithed ON/OFF recorded
39 DLB/ Bell book/GMDSS book/Compass book/Cronometer records.
40 SOM CL completed w/initials & on DLB as follow "SNM C.L. 15 completed. (APHR)".
41 Deviation card posted, if more than 1 year old Capt. to prepare a NEW Dev. Table.
42 UKC Policy Clear understood & posted on Bridge.
43 Hospital clean & inventory updated. Medical log and doctor visits to be kept
44 Hospital door marked "Oxygen Resusc. inside/Stretcher inside/Keys available on bridge".
45 Hospital, Special disposal box for used neddles.
46 Resuscitator tested & O2 bottles full. Instruction for use available.
47 Officers Trained on resuscitator use & recorded on Drill evaluation report.
48 First aid kit in CCR/Galley/ECR/Bridge/Ships office. Scissors, notebook and pencil in all kits.
49 Marine approved sextant must be onboard duly certified, no plastic sextants allowed.
50 Records of familiarizations on GMDSS for deck officers in GMDSS log book.
51 Use af all charts even tose chart where transiting periods are short.
52 Time of hard over the wheel fm one side to the opossite side, recorded MBB & Pilot card.
53 Gyro error shall be matemathic correctly as per Deviation table
54 Lookouts to be recorded in DLB and additional lookout posted while hand steering
55 Records available in the DLB & MBB when auto/manual steering was used.
56 Pilots integration to BTM (Master-Pilot exch. Info. completed and recorded).
57 TIDES info. attached to the Pass. plan. Charts to be shown on affected track.
58 VDR procedures and OOW familiarized.
59 RRAA to be posted on bridge if fitted with CFL.
60 GMDSS portable two way radio, spare batteries to be sealed and ready to be used.
61 SARTs each side the ship if fitted with convent. LB, if FFB 1 inside FFB & 1 near the bridge.
62 To verify shapes and equip: 3 balls, 1 diamond, 1 cilinder, 1 gong, 1 horn.
63 To align all giro repeaters with Master gyrocompass (bridge wings, SGR, center repeater).
64 When fitted with 2 Gyrocompass, state w/gyro being used & change gyro monthly.
65 Check all comunications operational and record in DLB (Phone, PA, Batt.phone, hand radios)
