A Master’s journey became more than a qualification for Grace. It became part of a bigger journey toward having her family together in New Zealand. ❤️🇳🇿

Grace had already taken the first step in her New Zealand journey as an international student. As a Registered Nurse who had worked in the Philippines and the Middle East and spent years studying and working in Australia, she had experienced what it meant to build a life away from home.

But this time, there was something different.

Grace was now pursuing her 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐙𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, while her husband Jason and their daughter Harper were still in the Philippines waiting for their visas.

We previously celebrated the Carpio Family’s visa approval. Today, we’re celebrating the milestone that makes it even more meaningful: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐙𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.

For John, hindi nagsimula sa classroom ang New Zealand journey niya. It started with real-world work experience.

From 2022 to 2024, nagtrabaho siya sa Auckland as a 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝. Sa loob ng dalawang taon, nagkaroon siya ng valuable exposure sa hospitality industry, natutong mag-adapt sa workplace environment, at naranasan ang challenges and rewards of working in New Zealand.

But when the work contract ended, another chapter began. 🇵🇭

In 2025, John applied for a New Zealand student visa. And in 2026, a new chapter unfolded as the student pursued a 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐲, a chance to develop culinary knowledge and build on previous hospitality experience. 👨‍🍳✨

Imagine learning the fundamentals of cookery in the classroom, understanding professional kitchen practices, and having the opportunity to apply relevant knowledge in a practical industry setting.

Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pag-aaral ng recipes and cooking techniques. It’s also about developing discipline, teamwork, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of the hospitality industry.

With previous work experience as a foundation, the student can bring a practical perspective to their studies while continuing to learn and grow. Because when education and relevant workplace exposure complement each other, they can help prepare students for future opportunities.

As an international student, may times talaga na yung job na pinaka-fit sa class schedule mo ay hindi connected sa programme mo. Ang important question is whether kaya mong 𝐢-𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞.

Later on, kung may opportunity related sa field mo na manageable pa rin with your studies, that's something worth considering. Pero hindi naman kailangang bawat part-time job decision ay directly connected sa long-term career plan mo.
