📵 Should screens be banned in early childhood centres?

National announced this week that, if re-elected, they'd ban screens and devices for children in ECE centres and tightly limit them in the first three years of primary school.

Here's our take as an Auckland ECE teacher agency supporting 100+ centres 👇

💛 What we love about it:
Tamariki learn best through play, books, conversation and time with their kaiako. That's what great centres already do every day, and it's great to see it backed at a national level.

🤔 What we're still wondering:

Will teachers still be able to use tablets for learning stories and updating parents? (We hope so!)
What about children who rely on devices to communicate?
Who will run the new "School Start Check," and will centres get extra support to do it?

At the end of the day, the biggest difference for our little ones isn't whether there's a tablet in the room. It's having enough caring, qualified teachers in it. 🙌
