Territory: Waikato and Bay of Plenty

I’m working with an established supplier of leading global cutting-tool and machining brands to appoint a Technical Sales Engineer for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region.
This is a genuine territory-ownership role for someone with strong CNC machining and tooling knowledge who can turn that technical expertise into trusted customer relationships and commercial growth.
As the primary commercial contact for the region, you’ll work closely with manufacturing and engineering customers to improve machining performance, reduce cost per part and deliver long-term value.

• Recommend technical tooling solutions that improve performance and reduce cost
• Manage pricing, quotations and commercial negotiations
• Maintain a strong pipeline and convert opportunities into long-term customers
• Work alongside a dedicated operations team to ensure reliable service delivery

You’ll need at least five years of relevant CNC machining or tooling experience, along with a strong understanding of manufacturing environments.
We’re interested in hearing from:

You’ll also bring:

• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills

WHAT’S ON OFFER

• Competitive base salary
• Performance-based bonus
• Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
• Established customer base with strong growth potential
• Dedicated operational support
• Access to leading global tooling brands,
• The opportunity to make a real impact within a growing business

WHY CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY?

The business operates a model that separates commercial growth from operational delivery. This allows you to focus on building relationships, winning business and delivering genuine value to customers, with an experienced operations team supporting service delivery.

Applicants must currently be living in New Zealand.

Ideally, you’ll be based in Tauranga, Hamilton or Cambridge—or be willing to relocate within the Waikato or Bay of Plenty region.
If you’re ready to take ownership of a territory and use your CNC knowledge in a commercially focused role, I’d like to hear from you.

Reflecting on a few recent successful placements, I was reminded why partnership is so important in recruitment.

Recruitment works best when it's a partnership, not a transaction.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned over the years is that the best hiring outcomes happen when recruiters and clients work together as one team.

For me, recruitment isn't about throwing CVs at a vacancy and hoping something sticks. It's about becoming an extension of my client's business. Taking the time to understand their culture, team dynamics, challenges, growth plans, and what success really looks like beyond the job description.

When clients are open and transparent with information, and when we communicate regularly throughout the process, it makes the hard yards so much easier. We can tackle challenges together, adjust course when needed, and make informed decisions that ultimately lead to better hiring outcomes.

The strongest placements I've made haven't come from a perfect job advert or a huge applicant pool. They've come from genuine collaboration, honest conversations, and a shared commitment to finding the right person for the role.

Recruitment is rarely a straight line. Markets change, candidate availability shifts, and sometimes the ideal person isn't actively looking. That's why working from the same page and trusting the process is so important.

I genuinely see my role as an extension of my clients' businesses. When we're aligned, communicating openly, and working towards the same goal, recruitment becomes far more effective—and a lot less stressful for everyone involved.

Here's to strong partnerships, open communication, and finding great people together.

✨ **Mānawatia a Matariki** ✨

As we celebrate Matariki, it's a great opportunity to pause, reflect on the year that's been, appreciate the people who have supported us, and look ahead with optimism to what's to come.

Running a small business certainly has its challenges, but it's also incredibly rewarding. I'm grateful to everyone who has trusted Fortitude Group this year—our clients, candidates, and the many people who have taken the time to connect, share advice, and support local business.

I hope this long weekend gives everyone the chance to spend quality time with family and friends, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved break.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Matariki.

What makes a good recruiter?

People often ask me what makes a good recruiter.

It isn't how many people they know.

It isn't how many jobs they fill.

And it certainly isn't how quickly they can send through a shortlist.

A good recruiter takes the time to understand both sides of the equation.

The business.

The team.

The culture.

The candidate.

Their experience, motivations and career goals.

Because when you genuinely understand people, recruitment stops being transactional and starts becoming transformational.

That's the part of my job I love most.

Watching someone thrive in a role they never thought they'd get.

Seeing a business owner tell me, "I don't know how we managed before they joined."

Knowing that a placement has created value long after the recruitment process has finished.

That's why I do what I do.

Whether you're looking for your next team member or considering your own next career move, my approach remains the same—honest advice, open communication and a genuine commitment to finding the right fit, not just filling a vacancy.

If you're looking for a recruiter who'll take the time to understand your business—not just your job description—I'd love to have a conversation.

📧 Email: [email protected]

Let's set up a call and talk about your hiring needs, your business, or your career goals. Even if you're not ready to recruit today, I'm always happy to have a conversation and share market insights.

Building great teams through honest recruitment.

• Own projects from concept through to completion
• Flexible working hours + paid overtime after 8 hours

Ideally you will have:
• Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner or equivalent engineering trade
• Strong CNC programming, setting, and operating experience
• Experience with both CNC mills and lathes

• Experience using Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or similar CAD/CAM software
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
• Excellent communication skills and a team-focused attitude

Highly Desirable
• Heavy engineering or heavy industry experience
• Experience with large-scale components and bespoke manufacturing
• Experience managing projects from design through to final production

BENEFITS
• Invercargill location with access to some of New Zealand's best outdoor lifestyle opportunities
• Join a company with over 50 years of engineering excellence
• Paid overtime after 8 hours worked
• Flexible working arrangements
• Small team environment where your contribution is recognised
• Varied and interesting work - no repetitive production line machining
• Opportunity to own projects from start to finish
• Long-term career stability with a highly respected employer
• Work alongside skilled tradespeople who genuinely care about quality
• Permanent full time role ( 40 hrs a week + Monday to Friday hours )
• $40 per hour ( depending on experience)

This is the type of role where trust is earned and given. You'll be expected to take ownership, deliver results, and contribute to the success of the wider team.
In return, you'll enjoy the autonomy, variety, and satisfaction that comes from producing quality engineering solutions and seeing your work make a real difference.
This isn't just a job.

CNC Machinist / Programmer – Invercargill

What if you could own the entire project—not just run the machine?

Most CNC roles involve making the same parts, running the same jobs, and being told exactly what to do. This isn't one of them.

I'm currently working with a well-established Southland engineering company that has been delivering bespoke engineering solutions for over 50 years.

They're looking for an experienced CNC Machinist who wants more than just setting and operating machines.

🔹 Own projects from concept through to completion

🔹 Program, set and operate CNC machinery

🔹 Work on one-off and bespoke engineering projects

🔹 Use your problem-solving skills, not just follow instructions

🔹 Be trusted to manage your own workload

🔹 Join a small team where your contribution genuinely matters

This role would suit a trade-qualified Fitter & Turner or experienced CNC Machinist who enjoys variety, autonomy, and seeing a project through from drawing to finished component. We're looking for someone who can think like an engineer, not just operate a machine.

Experience with CNC mills, lathes, Fusion 360, AutoCAD or similar CAD/CAM software would be highly regarded.

📍 Invercargill

💰 Excellent remuneration package for the right person

⏰ Flexible working hours + paid overtime

If you're feeling underutilised in your current role, or you're ready for a position where your experience and ideas are genuinely valued, I'd love to have a confidential chat.
