Lengthy paragraphs: Long paragraphs can be overwhelming to read and are often ignored! Use short, concise sentences to simply describe your qualifications.

Missing information: Make sure to include all necessary information, such as your contact information, work experience, education, and skills. Sometimes a good photo can help out too!

No references: Be sure to include at least 2 references. These can be previous employers, landlords, professors or teachers, coaches or mentors, former coworker.

Best of luck and feel free to send us a message or add a comment if you have any questions!

Hey job seekers! Are you finding it impossible to land that dream job? Here are 3 of the most common MISTAKES made when writing your CV (PART 1)!

Grammar and spelling mistakes: Nothing turns off potential employers more quickly than typos and misspellings. Always double-check for errors and have someone else look it over.

Lack of organisation: Your CV should be simple to read and well-structured. To draw attention to your accomplishments and abilities, use bullet points and concise wording.

Irrelevant details: Provide only details that are pertinent to the industry you're applying for. Don’t include screeds of irrelevant information, keep it to the point!

Hopefully these little tips help out a bit, there are more mistakes that come into play, be sure to tune in to the next couple of days to see part 2! Be sure to contact us if you have any questions!

Are you unclear as to what makes a cover letter and a curriculum vitae (CV) different? They both serve vital functions for job seekers, but they have different goals.

A CV provides a professional and comprehensive description of your education, work experience, skills, qualities and other relevant information. It is an essential document used when applying for jobs in your field.

A cover letter on the other hand, is more of a summary document that compliments your CV. This document will highlight the qualities, skills and experience you have that are specific to the job you are applying for. It can be thought of as a customised introduction about you to the employer. It should outline why you are a suitable candidate for the exact job you are applying for.

In summary think of a CV as an overall summary of your professional/educational history relating to a specific industry. Whereas a cover letter is a curated message to the employer explaining why you are suitable for the exact role you are applying for! These documents are both crucial, if you think you need help with either of them send us a message!

GOOD NEWS STORY!
The dynamic duo in the Orewa InWorkNZ office are my favourite people. Inwork was recommended and I hadn’t heard of the service prior to working with these awesome women. I honestly didn’t know what was provided however, Sue and Laura’s guidance of what they both do and what was going to happen and what was expected until I secured full-time employment was very thorough and exceptional. I had such a lovely experience with the InWork Orewa dynamic duo who were both patient and kind and some of the best people to have encountered on my journey to securing my full-time role. I was a bit sad that I wouldn’t see them again but very thankful for their help, their knowledge and expertise in helping me through the season of finding a job. I would definitely, recommend InWork, especially the Orewa office.

Are you in the process of writing your CV?

Have you thought about how to make your personal qualities stand out over competing candidates?

We at Inwork encourage you to brainstorm deeply about your personal qualities, things that really make you different and help you to stand out.

We encourage you to avoid using common words and phrases, such as “I am honest” or “I am a team player” Think about how you can make these qualities more exciting!

Remember these are NOT your skills! Qualities are traits you are born with! If you are wanting to learn more about how Inwork teaches personal qualities, send us a message to see if you are eligible!
