The Labour Exchange Ltd The Labour Exchange specialise in efficient labour supply to the civil and construction industry in Auckland.

The Labour Exchange has been operating for 20+ years providing an efficient labour supply to the greater Auckland area and more recently to Christchurch. We have always specialized in the construction and civil industries and as a result we fully understand the safety and work experience requirements of our clients. We are known as "the good bastards" in the industry. To us, a "good bastard" or "GB" is someone who is a great mate, totally reliable, honest, approachable, hard case, genuine, willing to go the extra mile and accountable for their actions. We prefer to do business with "GB's" like ourselves and we celebrate this by giving out a "Good B@stard Awards" each month to our top performing employees! Our focus on safety and service has meant we have become the preferred supplier to a large number of major construction and civil companies. We pride ourselves on these strong relationships and ensure they are maintained by constantly visiting our clients’ sites and getting to know the site managers personally. This helps us to understand specific site requirements and means we send workers who are the best fit for that particular job. The Labour Exchange is based in Parnell, Auckland and currently has 300 good people working daily. We carry out safety inductions to all new workers before they begin work and conduct on-site toolbox talks as well as site monitoring every week. We have also been Site Safe members since its inception.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s take a moment to check in with ourselves and the people around us. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or asking someone how they’re really doing can make a bigger difference than we realise.

In the construction industry, we know the importance of looking out for our mates on site. Let’s remember that looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical safety.

Whether it’s taking a break, having a chat, or reaching out for support, no one has to face things alone. Let’s continue to build a workplace where everyone feels supported, valued, and comfortable speaking up.

Look after yourself. Check in on your mates. It's okay not to be okay. 🤝

If you or anyone you know ever needs support, here are a few of our recommended organisations and their helplines that specialise in mental health support.

Mates in Construction: 0800 111 315

Toolbox Talk: Eye Protection 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️
Your eyes are irreplaceable — protecting them should always be a top priority on-site.

Every day on construction sites, workers face hazards like flying debris, dust, chemicals, and bright light from tools or welding. The good news? Most eye injuries are completely preventable with the right gear.

Here’s what to remember:
• Always wear eye protection where hazards are present — no exceptions.
• Choose the right type for the job: safety glasses, goggles, or face shields.
• Make sure your eye protection fits properly and stays clean.
• Inspect your gear before each use — replace anything cracked, scratched, or damaged.
• Never alter your PPE, and use additional protection when tasks require it.

A few seconds to put on your PPE can prevent a lifetime of damage.
Stay alert. Stay protected. Safety starts with you. 💪👓
