WE'RE HIRING: Safety Business Partner
Wanted: A Partner in Safety, Not the Safety Police

At OFI's Carwarp plant, just outside Mildura, we turn a great many almonds into a great deal of product. It's a busy site with processing, logistics, stockpads and plenty of moving machinery. What it needs now is one person who makes sure everyone goes home in the same condition they arrived.

This is the only safety role on site, so there's no hiding behind someone else's clipboard. If you're happiest with your boots on the floor and your eyes on what's actually happening, read on. If you prefer your safety from behind a monitor, this probably isn't your nut to crack.

You'll have the authority to stop the plant when something isn't right, and the backbone to use it. That doesn't make this a policing role, and it isn't a popularity contest either. The right person will be respected rather than everyone's mate: firm when it counts and fair every time. You care about safety because you care about people, and you understand that product quality and OFI's reputation depend on getting it right too.

Tuesday Talent Tips: Please, protect your heart and your wallet

This week we had something happen that we cannot stay quiet about.

Several people phoned us in a panic, having been approached by a company calling itself KoruRecruitment. It sounds almost identical to KoruTalent and we understand completely why it was confused for us. This company asked people to download an app and share personal information and it left good, hopeful jobseekers feeling used and unsettled when they realised, this was all a big lie!

And then there was the story that has genuinely stayed with us. A candidate paid someone eight thousand dollars to be made "paper ready" for a move to Australia or New Zealand. The person who took that money already knew about a medical condition that would never allow him to work here. They took his hard earned savings and shattered his dreams. He was devastated!

We need to say this as plainly as we can. You should never pay a recruitment consultant to get you a job. Not for paperwork, not for introductions, not for promises. If someone is asking for money before they will help you find work, that is your sign to stop and check.

So please, before you trust anyone with your details or your money, do a little homework. Look up the company. Check their website and their LinkedIn page properly, not just the name someone gave you over the phone. If someone tells you they work for a company, phone that company directly using the details on their official website and ask them to confirm it.

Ask for referrals. Speak to people who have actually used that recruiter before. A trusted partner will have a track record and people who are happy to vouch for them.

Be wary of anyone who wants a large payment upfront, or who pressures you to act immediately because you might "miss out." Genuine opportunities do not disappear the moment you ask a sensible question.

And be cautious of any guarantee. A good recruiter can open a door and make an introduction, but the decision on who gets the job will always sit with the employer, not with us.

Most importantly, please hear this from us directly. KoruTalent will never ask a candidate to pay us for our services. We do not charge jobseekers to help them find work, not now, not ever. If anyone contacts you claiming to be from KoruTalent and asks you for money, please call us on our official number before you send anything at all.

At the heart of all this is something simple. You deserve to work with someone who understands your heart, your skills and where you are trying to get to in life. Someone who sees you as a person, not a payment. Looking for work is hard enough without having to wonder if the person on the other end of the phone is genuine.

Take your time. Ask your questions. Trust your instincts. And know that we are always just a phone call away if you want to check whether something feels right

Tuesday Talent Tips: What Disappointment Reveals

There is a moment in recruitment that never gets easier and that is the phone call where you have to tell a candidate that a role has been withdrawn.

Sometimes it is a restructure, sometimes a budget freeze, sometimes a change of direction that has nothing to do with them at all. Whatever the reason, the outcome for the candidate is the same. Hope, effort and time, all handed back with nothing to show for it.

We had two candidates go through exactly this recently, both at the same stage, both invited back for a second, onsite interview before the role disappeared from under them. Two people, the same disappointment, two completely different responses…and it taught us something worth sharing.

The first candidate was gutted. He said so plainly and did not pretend otherwise. But he also said something we will not forget. He understood that businesses change direction, that timing is not always kind and that this was nobody's fault. He thanked us for keeping him informed and asked if we would keep him in mind for the future. Graceful is the only word for it.

The second candidate was just as disappointed, and he had every right to be. But where the first candidate met the news with patience, this one met it with anger. The response that followed was harsh, unforgiving and frankly, difficult to hear. We understood the frustration underneath it. We did not enjoy delivering the news either. But how a person responds when things go wrong tells you more about them than any interview ever could.

That is the part we keep coming back to. A candidate's character does not show up in the good moments. It shows up here, in the moment they did not see coming and did not ask for.

So this week, our message is really for our clients. Please do not withdraw a role lightly and please do not leave it too long once the decision is made.

People put real effort into an application. They prepare, they rearrange their week, they tell their families they have made it to the second round. Some of them turn down other opportunities to keep their diary clear for you.

We are not saying roles should never change or disappear. Business realities are real. We are saying that the people on the other end of that decision are real too and they deserve to hear it from us with care and without delay.

We can't play with people's lives. Not when they have shown up, prepared and hopeful, for something we asked of them.

KoruTalent's 5th Birthday

We love birthdays at KoruTalent, and today is a particularly special one. We are celebrating five years of KoruTalent.

With a very humble heart, I think back to the day our website went live. Our first client visit. Our first candidate interview. Our first job assignment. Our very first placement. These are memories I will treasure forever.

Choosing our name was not easy. I wanted it to tell the story of who we are and where our heart lies: our love for people, this beautiful country we call home, and the goodness of the God we serve.

That is why the KORU felt so right. The KORU is a beautiful Māori symbol of new beginnings, growth, hope, strength and renewal. From the beginning, those values became the foundation of KORUTALENT and continue to guide everything we do.

While our work now reaches both sides of the Tasman, our heart has not changed. Every placement still represents a new beginning. Every client partnership is built on trust. Every person deserves to be seen for far more than what is written on their CV.

Our logo reminds us of this every day. Just as the koru slowly unfolds, careers, businesses and relationships grow over time. They need care, patience, trust and the right environment to flourish. (And sometimes cake..!)

Thank you to every client, candidate, colleague and friend who has trusted us, encouraged us and been part of this journey. You have helped KoruTalent grow into so much more than I could have imagined five years ago.

Here’s to new beginnings, to the people we have yet to meet and to the next chapter of the KoruTalent story.

Production Engineering Supervisor
When the almonds arrive, you lead production. When the season finishes, you help prepare the plant to do it all again.

Almond harvest is a busy and important time at OFI. The Hulling, Shelling and Packing Plants need an experienced supervisor who can keep production moving, support the team and ensure every almond is processed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

But wait, there is more...

Once all the almonds have been processed, your focus will move across to the maintenance side of the operation. You will assist with repairs, shutdown maintenance and plant improvements, helping ensure the equipment is ready for the next harvest season.

This is a practical, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands production but is equally comfortable getting involved when equipment needs attention.
