𝐈 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐬.

The pitch was sharp. The message was right. The suit matched mine almost perfectly.

However, the face wasn't mine. The smile wasn't mine. The energy wasn't mine.

𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐒𝐎 𝟗𝟎𝟎𝟏:𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟓 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫.

Not out of frustration. He rolled down his window and said "Sir, your tie is flipped."

He was wearing one too.

I fixed it. We exchanged a nod. He drove away.

That was it. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬. No names. No conversation.

But I have been thinking about it all day.

In Nepal, a tie is not a tradition. You see it in banks, a few corporates, some private offices. In Japan, Europe, the GCC it is standard. Every floor, every meeting, every morning.

When I started in recruitment, I learned something early. Your first communication with any employer, any candidate, any room happens before you open your mouth.

The way you dress tells people what you think of them. It says: 𝑰 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕.

That stranger this morning did not know me. But he noticed me. Because we shared the same standard and that created an instant respect between two people who will probably never meet again.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞.

In our industry, we tell candidates this constantly. Your resume gets you the interview. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭.

But here is what that man reminded me today dressing well is not just about what you get. It is about what you give. A signal to the world that you carry yourself with intention.

Because someone always is.
