Pawel, from Bulgaria 🇧🇬, is 30 years old and has been working through VZM Uitzendgroep for 3 years now. 🫑 Normally, he comes to the Netherlands for seasonal work for around 3 months, but this year he is staying longer and will be working here for about 10 months. 📆

What makes it feel familiar is that he stays in the same house every year and works at the same job. This gives him stability, routine and a place he knows he can return to. 🏠

Moving to another country for work is exciting, but it can also raise a lot of questions. We noticed there are quite a few misconceptions, so let’s clear up a few of them.

❌ “Temporary work is only for a few weeks.”
We have many workers who come here year after year for 6 to 9 months and then go back.

❌ “You will be left alone after your first working day.”
You do not have to figure everything out by yourself. You will be appointed a job coach who will help you through the whole process.

❌ “You need years of experience to find a job in the Netherlands.”
For many jobs, motivation, reliability and the right attitude can be just as important as experience.

❌ “I will just fly over and search for work when I arrive.”

It is always better to arrange everything before you come. Housing, transport and work all need to be organized in advance, and we need to explain the full process clearly. Applying does not always mean you can start the next day.

𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗨𝗠 𝗪𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝟭 𝗝𝗨𝗟𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 💰

From 1 July 2026, the legal minimum wage will increase again.

Are you 21 years or older? Then the minimum hourly wage will go up from €14.71 to €14.99 gross per hour. The youth minimum wages will also go up, because they are based on a percentage of the regular minimum wage.

From 1 January 2027, the percentages for the youth minimum wage will also increase again. This is part of a step-by-step change, making the difference between youth wages and adult wages smaller over time.

The amount you receive in your bank account can be different for each person. This depends on things such as the hours worked, deductions, allowances and holiday pay.

𝗔 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 🌱

Your day starts early. You wake up in your own home or in housing provided by VZM. After that, you are picked up and brought to work, so your transport is also arranged for you. 🚕

Once you arrive at the location, it is time to start working in the greenhouse. Depending on the company you work for, you may work between flowers, plants, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes or other greenhouse products. 🍅

Before you start, you put on your work clothes and, if needed, gloves. The exact work you do depends on the product and the position. For example, you may harvest, sort, take care of plants, check products or prepare products for transport. 💪

You work together with colleagues, keep a good pace and see the results of your work right away. 👌 During the day, there is also time for a break, to relax for a moment and talk with your colleagues.

Because you start early, many jobs also finish earlier in the day, which is a nice bonus. 😉 At the end of the day, you are brought back to your housing.

Are you going to work in the Netherlands through VZM for the first time? Some things may be different from what you are used to. That’s why we have listed a few important points for you:

🕔 Working hours differ per sector and job position. In greenhouse horticulture, you often start early in the morning and finish earlier as well. In other sectors, you may work late or irregular shifts. 🌱

🗣️ Dutch people generally speak English quite well. You do not need to speak Dutch for every job, but if you speak English, you can make yourself understood in many places. Even if you do not speak Dutch or English, VZM can often still help you find work.

💶 You are entitled to at least the Dutch minimum wage. From 1 January 2026, this will be at least €14.71 gross per hour for employees aged 21 and over. From 1 July 2026, the gross minimum hourly wage for employees aged 21 and over will increase to €14.99 per hour. Lower youth minimum wages apply to employees under the age of 21. 💶

⏰ In the Netherlands, there are clear rules about how many hours you are allowed to work. Overtime must also be registered by your employer according to the rules.

🧤 In many sectors, you work according to clear safety and hygiene rules. For example, this may include work clothing, gloves, hairnets or safety shoes.

💰 Your wages are paid weekly into your bank account. You will also receive a payslip, so you can see exactly how many hours you have worked, how much you have earned and which amounts have been deducted.
