What is a BSN, and why does every employee in the Netherlands need one? 🇳🇱

A BSN (burgerservicenummer) is the Dutch citizen service number used for payroll, taxes, healthcare, pensions, and government administration. Without it, compliant employment in the Netherlands becomes difficult for both employers and employees.

For employers:
- Required for payroll processing and wage tax registration
- Needed for pension and healthcare contributions
- Used for employee registration with the Belastingdienst
For employees:
- Needed to receive salary correctly
- Required to apply for DigiD and access Dutch government services
- Essential for healthcare insurance, taxes, and municipality registration
