🇳🇱 Thinking about working in the Netherlands? You don’t need to have everything arranged before you get in touch.

If you’re an experienced construction worker, the most useful things to have ready are:

• An up-to-date CV showing your trade and previous experience
• Details of the work you can do, including tools, materials and systems you’ve worked with
• Any certificates you already have, such as VCA or trade qualifications
• Your identification documents
• Your availability, including when you could travel to the Netherlands

Don’t have a VCA or BSN yet? That doesn’t necessarily stop the process. Flexbouwers can provide support with arranging both when needed.

You also don’t need to arrange accommodation or transport before contacting us. For our projects, Flexbouwers can provide free accommodation and a company car.
The most important thing to start with is your experience. Send us your CV, tell us what type of construction work you do, and we can explain the next steps.

🦺 No VCA yet? That doesn’t automatically mean you should rule yourself out.

A VCA is required for many construction projects in the Netherlands, so it’s common to see it mentioned when looking at available work. But if you have the right trade experience and don’t currently have a valid VCA certificate, you can still get in touch with Flexbouwers.

We can help with VCA support and arranging the certification when needed, so you can have the correct safety requirements in place before starting on a project.

The important thing is to be clear about what certificates you already have when you contact us. We can then explain what is required for the specific project and what we can help you arrange.

So if you see “VCA required” alongside a project that otherwise fits your experience, don’t immediately assume it isn’t an option.

🏗️ If you’ve worked on construction sites in other countries, you might notice a few differences when you start working in the Netherlands.

Dutch construction has a strong reputation for organisation, planning and safety. Sites tend to be structured, with clear processes around who is doing what, when work needs to happen and how different trades work alongside each other.

Safety is also taken seriously. VCA certification is common across the industry, with clear expectations around PPE, site rules and safe working practices.

You may also notice how much Dutch construction uses prefabrication. More of the building process can happen in controlled factory environments, with complete walls, timber-frame elements, window systems and other components arriving on site ready for installation.

For experienced workers, that can mean a different way of working. Accuracy, following technical drawings, arriving on time and being able to work independently are highly valued.

SNF is one of those abbreviations you’ll see a lot when looking at accommodation in the Netherlands, but what does it actually mean? 🏠

SNF stands for Stichting Normering Flexwonen. It sets standards for accommodation provided to labour migrants in the Netherlands.

For accommodation to meet SNF standards, it is assessed against requirements covering things like the amount of living and sleeping space available, sanitary facilities, hygiene, privacy, safety and fire safety. The aim is to make sure temporary accommodation meets a recognised standard rather than leaving workers unsure about the conditions they will arrive to.

This matters when you’re travelling to the Netherlands for a project. Finding somewhere to live in a new country can be one of the biggest practical concerns, especially when you don’t know the local housing market.

At Flexbouwers, accommodation is provided free of charge and meets SNF standards, so this is one less thing you need to arrange yourself.
