For the past few years, Marijke de Gruyter has been commissioned by several theaters to design the posters for their plays. Teaming up with Nicolien, they have created remarkable work that beautifully captures the essence of each production, highlights the main characters, or reflects the target audience. Countless hours went into preparing costumes and building sets to bring their vision to life long before the actual photoshoot ever took place. It was all done for the pure love of theatre

Our photographer Marjolein made this impressive and beautiful series for Vluchtelingenwerk.

Hussein (67) learned the carpentry trade in Aleppo, Syria. He opened his own business and worked from eight in the morning until two at night, every single day. After fifty years of work, he lost everything when he was forced to flee.
Hussein was just a child when he lost his parents: no father, no mother; I was alone in a big city. A furniture maker saw talent in me and said: come work for me if you like. That was my salvation. After a few years, I rented a small space and started my own shop.

We fled with nothing but the clothes on our backs. We walked through the forest for thirty hours—at night, in the winter cold, without food. Everything was left behind in Aleppo.
I asked COA staff if they could help me find a workshop. I was given one here at the asylum seekers' center. Someone later sent me photos of my old workshop. Everything has been destroyed. And yet, here I am every day, planing wood until something beautiful emerges. This is where I am at home now.

For the latest Zeeman Autumn Kids campaign, Marijke handled both direction and photography on one of the hottest days of the year. Working with kids in winter gear under those conditions is definitely a challenge! The slogan “Zeeman, it’s that simple” means the final result has to look completely effortless. What people don’t always see is the well-oiled team it takes to pull off a day like that. Only years of experience and deep insight make it look easy, creating clear, relatable images that are absolutely bursting with fun

Our photographer Jonathan captured the latest phase of an Amsterdam technology campus for HLW, capturing a workplace designed around the changing ways people work.
The interiors combine vibrant spaces for collaboration with quieter areas for focus, meeting and recharge. Drawing on the character of Amsterdam, the design creates a contemporary and flexible environment where architecture, materials and light work together to shape the experience of the workplace.

In this portrait of Yuwong Chou by Jouk Oosterhof for the FD summer edition. She looks fierce, confident, and unstoppable. Behind this image, however, was a storm.
This shoot took place right when ADC—the commercial printing company she ran with her husband—went bankrupt, threatening the livelihoods of 200 employees.
But Yuwong is a fighter. From working in her parents’ restaurant at age four to overcoming years of discrimination and professional rejection, she has always defied the odds. Her sharp commercial insights even earned her the prestigious Global People Award in 2021.
Proving that you can’t keep a good entrepreneur down, ADC successfully launched a restart just as the FD newspaper hit the stands.
In Yuwong’s own words: “Setbacks are part of life. It’s all about how you handle them.”
