Buhari, Osinbajo Take 50%
Pay Cut

President Muhammadu Buhari has slashed
his salary and that of his deputy, Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo by 50%, entailing
that they will be receiving half of what their
predecessors, Goodluck Jonathan and
Namadi Sambo were paid.
While the current annual remuneration of
the President of Nigeria as published by the
Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal
Commission is N14,058,820.00 (about N14
milion), Buhari will now receive
N7,29,410.00 annually.
The decision by Buhari to cut his salary by
half was conveyed to the office of the
Secretary to government of the federation
(SGF) by the permanent secretary of the
State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi on
Thursday.
This was the outcome of the meeting the
president had with the perm sec who briefed
him about the state of affairs of the State
House on Wednesday.
LEADERSHIP, our sister publication had
reported yesterday that President Buhari had
also at the meeting turned down a proposal
to purchase five new armoured Mercedes
S-600 (V222) cars for his use at a cost of
about N400 million.
He told Emodi during the briefing that there
was no need for the vehicles when the ones
he inherited from former President Goodluck
Jonathan were still in good shape for him to
use.
A statement by Senior Special Assistant to
the President on Media and Publicity,
Mallam Garba Shehu to this effect noted
that the perm sec, Emodi conveyed the new
salary package to the office of the SGF in a
letter with reference number PRES/81/
SGF/17.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will only
receive 50% of the salary paid to his
predecessor. The President’s decision to
take a 50% pay cut was conveyed to the
Office of the Secretary to the Government of
the Federation yesterday by the Permanent
Secretary of the State House, Mr. Nebolisa
Emodi”, Shenu stated.
He quoted Emodi as writing: “I write to
forward the completed IPPIS registration
form of Mr. President and to draw your kind
attention to Mr. President’s directive that
only 50% of his salary be paid to him”.
Shehu said Vice President Osinbajo “has
similarly given up half of his official
remuneration.”

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Minna on Friday upturned the result of the Niger East Senatorial by-election conducted on August 30, 2014.

The by-election was concluded on the 6th of September, 2014 in favor of Barrister David Umaru of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Chairman of the 3-man tribunal, Justice Ibrahim Bako gave the verdict in a judgement that lasted for hours.

Justice Bako saw the APC candidate returning with 79,779 votes as against Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had 68,525 votes.

Umaru of APC had petitioned the tribunal challenging the declaration of Nuhu of PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the by-election.

This brings the number of APC Senators in the state to two – Niger East and Niger North Senatorial districts while PDP hold on to its control of Niger South Senatorial district-publicity Sec. APC Canvasser Niger State Chapter

A yet unclear number of the Chibok girls kidnapped by the extremist Boko Haram sect in April have been released, officials said. A top military source said two Toyota Hiace buses loaded with the girls were driven into the Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri this evening. British spy plane joins search for girls

A Sentinel reconnaissance aircraft left RAF Waddington yesterday morning bound for the Ghanian capital of Accra, west of Nigeria and close to where Islamist terror group Boko Haram are believed to be holding the Chibok girls.

The high-tech surveillance jet will assist US aircraft in attempting to find the schoolgirls, who were abducted in their school on April 15.

British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said: “The kidnap of these girls is a reprehensible act which has drawn international condemnation.

“I am pleased that Britain’s armed forces have been able to support the international search operation and provide the specialist skills which could help the Nigerians locate their missing children.”

The plane is fitted with radar which can locate moving targets and provide detailed pictures of activity on the ground.

The jet is operated by a five-man crew and is capable of flying for significant periods of time at high altitude.

“The Sentinel with its wide area search capability and long endurance is perfect for this task,” said Rich Barrow, RAF Waddington’s station commander.

“UK personnel will help to analyse the information gathered to improve the intelligence picture for the Nigerian authorities.”

On Saturday, Foreign Secretary William Hague urged West African countries to unite in order to defeat Boko Haram during a crisis meeting in Paris.

Mr Hague added that the UK and other nations must do more to support regions where Boko Haram operates.

“More will need to be done in the north of Nigeria in terms of clean water, healthcare, education and so on,” he said.
