Stop everything! If you're planning to get a Post-Graduation Work Permit in 2026, there's a NEW rule that could destroy your PR dreams if you ignore it! π¨
The Big Change: IRCC now requires ALL PGWP applicants to prove language proficiency. This is NOT optional anymore β it's mandatory!
Here's What You Need:
For University Graduates (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD):
Minimum CLB 7 in ALL four areas (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
Equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in each band
For College/Non-Degree Graduates:
Minimum CLB 5 in ALL four areas
Equivalent to IELTS 5.0 in each band
Why This Matters:
Your PGWP is your bridge to PR. Without it, you can't gain Canadian work experience. Without Canadian work experience, your PR pathway collapses. This language requirement is now a CRITICAL checkpoint!
Approved Tests:
β
IELTS Academic or General
β
CELPIP
β
PTE Core
β
TEF Canada (French)
β
TCF Canada (French)
