The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ Nigeria) is inviting applications for five news impact reporters and an editor to man the News Impact Desk it is creating.

FIJ is creating the desk with Google’s support, after emerging one of the winners of the 2022 edition of the Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge.

The desk is to be created as part of FIJ’s News Impact Project (NIP), an initiative that extends the value of news beyond “informing, educating and entertaining” to “positively impacting the society”.

FIJ’s NIP will allow the public leverage communication technology to use the media for social causes.

The candidates being sought will work to improve public access to the media for social justice reporting by manning a help desk for members of the public facing some form of social injustice, helping them to take advantage of communication technology to secure direct access to the newsroom.

EDITOR
An experienced journalist to oversee the operations of the desk and give editorial direction to team members. Previous experience in a line editing role in the newsroom is the minimum requirement.

Remuneration: Negotiable

NEWS IMPACT REPORTERS
Reporters with a burning passion for using journalism to fight oppression and injustice. Entry-level applicants are welcome, but the ideal candidates must have done journalism before, regardless of length of experience. Must have a mastery of the English Language but do not necessarily need to have studied the language as a course.

Remuneration: Negotiable

LOCATION: All roles are in Lagos and are full-time. Not off-site, not hybrid.
