The Japan Foundation is Japan’s only institution dedicated to carrying out comprehensive international cultural exchange programs throughout the world.

Established in 1972, the Japan Foundation creates opportunities for people-to-people interactions through the various activities and information services with the objective of deepening mutual understanding between the people of Japan and other countries/regions. The Malaysian office was established in October 1989 and its status upgraded to Cultural Centre in February 1992. Three years later in A

pril 1995, the Language Centre was formed under the umbrella of the Cultural Centre. The primary objective of JFKL is to develop mutual understanding between people through culture and language within the region. The office also facilitates and supports the exchange of personnel and experts who work in the field of Arts, Culture, Humanities and Social Sciences. Other objectives include developing a pool of local expertise in the field of Japanese language teaching and providing a better learning environment through our original language courses, development of new resources including e-learning materials, and events such as speech contest.

[𝗝𝗙𝗙𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣]

As a way of inspiring and empowering aspiring filmmakers, The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) and Canon Malaysia (Canon Malaysia) have collaborated once again to conduct a Filmmaking Workshop, mentored by team Imaginur, Nik Amir Mustapha (Director), Idham Mad Din (Cinematographer), Johan Arif Mazlan (Editor), in conjunction with the upcoming JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL 2026.

Participated by five Malaysian universities, here are some recap photos from the three-day filmmaking workshop at MMU’s Faculty of Cinematic Arts!

The students were tasked to create a trailer for the upcoming film festival which will premiere and stand as a preview at the opening ceremony JFF 2026! All works and a behind-the-scenes video will be uploaded on JFKL’s YouTube channel. So, stay tuned and see you at JFF 2026!
