The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority has challenged business owners in Zomba and surrounding areas to master the use and utilization of the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS).

Acting Director General for the Authority Timothy Kalembo made the call in Zomba during dedicated training for Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) about the system.

Kalembo reiterated that MANePS offers numerous business opportunities for MSMEs since the system streamlines preferential treatment for small businesses in line with the PPDA Act of 2025.

He said MANePS is a government reform agenda under Public Procurement and aims at enhancing Transparency and Accountability thus reducing corruption in the process.

PPDA TRAINS STAFF IN OCDS

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) on Tuesday oriented its staff on Open Data Contracting Standard (OCDS), a component of the Malawi Fiscal Governance Program for Results (PFORR).

OCDS is a standard for the disclosure of data aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in Public Procurement.

Acting Director General for the Authority Timothy Kalembo said the training was timely to ensure that all the Authority’s employees familiarize themselves with the concept.

Kalembo said Electronic- Government Procurement which the Government of Malawi is implementing through the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS) is here to stay and that all PPDA employees ought to move with the reform.

MANePS according to E-Procurement Manager Yvonne Kasamba is the PPDA’s major source for Open Contracting Data.

The orientations comes ahead of the official launch of the MANePS OCDS Portal where members of the public will have access to information about all Public Procurement transactions done through MANePS.
