Client needed both fintech expertise and compliance knowledge. Instead of fighting over territory, the AMs tagged each other in, split the commission, closed in 6 weeks.

Most sales cultures reward individual performance and wonder why revenue plateaus.

Three MFSA regulated firms called us this month for the same role. Legal tech specialist. โ‚ฌ65k starting. Nobody could find one locally.

The pattern is everywhere. Contract automation platforms need lawyers who code. Regulatory reporting tools need compliance officers who understand APIs. Traditional legal recruitment assumes you hire a lawyer then teach them Excel.

That world is gone.

We placed a former PwC compliance manager at a fintech last week. She had taught herself Python during lockdown to automate her regulatory filings. The hiring manager said she was the only candidate in 40 who understood both MiFID II and version control.

Malta's financial services sector is moving faster than its talent pipeline. The firms adapting their hiring spec are filling roles. The ones posting "lawyer, 3+ years PQE" are not.

Your lecturers will not tell you this. Getting a tech degree in Malta is not the same as getting hired.

I see CVs from UOM computer science grads who can explain algorithms but have never pushed code to GitHub. Who know theory but have never worked in a team on a real project.

The students who get hired before graduation do three things the others skip. They build stuff outside coursework. They contribute to open source projects. They network with actual developers at Malta.ai meetups and TechMT events.

Your degree gets you past the ATS. Your portfolio gets you the interview. Your ability to collaborate gets you the job.

Most students figure this out in final year. The smart ones start in year one.
