Hiring in Malta follows a calendar, and it's easy to miss.
Jobs aren't gained and lost at an even pace through the year. A handful of months do most of the work, in both directions. Between 2020 and 2025, there were 20 months in which more Maltese workers left jobs than started them, even though every one of those years still ended with more hires than exits. Across a workforce that reached 340,463 people in 2025, four months stand out.
January brings the biggest wave of new starters. July is the second peak. September frees up people coming off summer contracts. December is the lull before it all starts again.
The employers who plan around these months get the pick of the candidates. If you're hiring for January, start now.
