Revenue loss, issues with funding and keeping employees: how today's challenges influence Nordic startups?

To raise awareness of the ongoing challenges startups face as a result of the pandemic The Hub, a free-of-charge community platform for startups, has surveyed the current situation.

To save your time, we made a summary of the survey to show how the most vulnerable part of the IT-industry - startups, is reacting.

The Hub targeted startups in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Northern Ireland and got responses from 468 of them as of March 23, 2020. Foremost, these are startups with 1 to 20 employees; the max headcount is +35.

The results:

- the main challenge is the income decrease due to the drop in sales. 81% of respondents put it in the first place.

- the second place goes to issues with current or future funding rounds.

- 37% of respondents are planning to reduce the workforce. They define their efforts to save the staff and continue to pay salaries as a very tough task.

According to a survey by Techleap - the Netherlands non-profit - more than half of the Dutch startups will be out of money in 1 to 3 months. 31% think that they will have 3 to 6 months.
