From apprentice mechanic in Sardinia to specialized technician in Norway 🇳🇴🛠️

Read Nicolò’s story below and see how this experience changed both his professional and personal life.

"Hello everyone, my name is Nicolò, I’m 25 years old and I come from Sardinia, Italy 🇮🇹 After working for two years as an apprentice mechanic in a multi-brand workshop, I decided to develop my skills further and completed training to become a Mechatronic Technician and Technical Manager for Mechatronics.

During my years at language-focused high school, I also developed a good level of English, so I decided to pursue an international experience abroad - something I had always wanted to do.

Thanks to Corina and SLS, I got the offer to work in Norway. I had support throughout the whole recruitment process. Whenever I had questions or needed help, she was always available and quick to reply. After completing the selection process, I was contacted by my employer, who helped me find accommodation that suited me best and supported me from the moment I arrived at the airport. I also received help with all the registrations and paperwork in Norway, which made the move and settling in much easier.

Today, I work in Norway in a workshop specialized in Renault, Mitsubishi, Hongqi, Changan, and Voyah vehicles 🔧I found a positive, skilled, and welcoming team, and from the first days I felt comfortable and at home.

One of the things I value most about working in Norway 🇳🇴, besides the modern workshop and advanced equipment, is the work-life balance. There’s less stress, employee safety and well-being really matter, and the working hours give you time to enjoy life outside of work - whether that’s hobbies, sports, or exploring the amazing nature Norway has to offer.

I would recommend this experience to any mechanic who wants to challenge themselves, grow professionally, and try something new. It’s an opportunity that helps you grow - both professionally and personally."

🎤 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱?

I was born in Cecina and lived in Tuscany until I was 22, working as a painter for Volkswagen. Later, I had the opportunity to work in Switzerland as a cross-border worker, and that’s where I really started to take a significant step forward. I was able to specialize in automotive painting thanks to professional courses and the support of colleagues with the AFC (Federal Certificate of Competence).

During that time, I realized something important: until then, I had always worked well, but I felt that in Italy there was a limit to personal and professional growth. I have always been very ambitious, with a strong desire to improve myself and raise the level of my skills.

Unfortunately, my contract was not renewed due to the completion of hail damage repair work. I returned to Italy, where I continued to work at very high standards for brands such as Volkswagen and Mercedes, with intense work rhythms and very high expectations. 💪

🎤 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲?

Even though I was doing well in Italy, the thought of working abroad often came back to me. Not for the salary, but for a deeper reason: the feeling of being stuck, without real opportunities for personal and professional growth. When I saw ad of SLS United, I applied without hesitation. Norway had always fascinated me: I only knew it through videos and images, but I felt it could be the right place to take another step forward. 🇳🇴

🎤 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗟𝗦 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀?

The SLS recruiter, Corina, guided me through the selection process in a professional and helpful way. She supported me from the beginning until my arrival in Norway.

Relocating wasn’t difficult because the employer in Norway helped me with everything: the flight, accommodation, and even a car. 🚗 They also supported me in finding my current home and, during the first week, provided everything I needed, including food and personal items. If I had a problem, they responded immediately and really helped me.

The work environment in the body shop is very positive and friendly. They make you feel comfortable, almost like at home, while respecting the rules and culture of the host country. I currently work for Mazda and MG, brands I have always appreciated and had already painted in Italy. I really enjoy the type of work and the level of organization.

💰 280 - 325 NOK/hour (approx. €24–€28 gross/hour)
