We are proud to announce that Navigation Cadet Ms. Sarani Rameesha has joined Oldendorff Carriers, becoming the first Sri Lankan female Navigation Cadet to sail onboard their fleet.

While Oldendorff has long been home to talented female seafarers worldwide, this milestone marks an important step forward for Sri Lankan representation at sea.

Sarani’s journey is more than a personal achievement — it reflects a shifting tide in the maritime industry, where skill, determination, and courage continue to redefine what is possible.

The 14th Edition of the Mercmarine Premier League came to an exciting close on 28th March 2026 at G.H. Buddhadasa Grounds, Pelawatte, bringing together our incredible seafarers, invited teams, industry partners, stakeholders, and our valued clients for a day filled with passion, sportsmanship, and unforgettable cricketing moments.

We were honored to have Mr. Asanga Deshapriya, Director General of Merchant Shipping, as the Chief Guest of MPL 2026. Your presence truly brought the tournament to life and added immense value with all our invitees.

From the very first delivery in the morning to the final celebrations in the evening, the ground was alive with energy. Cheers echoed across the field, boundaries thrilled the crowd, and every wicket sparked excitement—proving once again that the spirit of our seafarer community shines just as brightly on the cricket field as it does at sea.

🌊⚓ Celebrating a Milestone in Women’s Maritime Progress

We are proud to share that Ms. Hirushi Hansika has successfully progressed from Cadet Officer to serving as a 4th Officer.

Having completed her cadetship with Swire Shipping, this achievement marks an important milestone—not only in her professional journey, but also as a significant step forward for female representation in the maritime industry. She is among the first Sri Lankan female officers to serve onboard vessels owned and managed by Swire Shipping.

This accomplishment reflects her dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence at sea.

Every watch she has stood on the bridge, every challenge she has embraced, and every lesson she has learned has shaped her into the officer she is today. Stepping into this role is not only a personal achievement, but also a testament to the evolving maritime industry, where women are confidently taking their place on the bridge.

As she continues her career, her journey will no doubt inspire many young girls who aspire to a life at sea.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Swire Shipping for their continued support in developing seafaring talent and promoting greater inclusion within the industry.

The first day of the year was truly special at Mercmarine. We began 2026 surrounded by the smiles and energy of our amazing Mercmarine family, with blessings from all four religions, honoring tradition, unity, and respect for one another.

We were deeply privileged to welcome Capt. Kriwat and Mrs. Kriwat again this year, whose presence reminded us of our roots and the vision that started it all. Their blessings made our new year even more meaningful.

And of course, no celebration is complete without milk rice and sweetmeats—sharing laughter, joy, and a sense of togetherness over these cherished traditions.
