_WHAT'S THE VALUE OF A GOOD CV?
It's 7.51PM. It's getting quite late but one of our consultants, Sheillah, is still in the office. In fact, we're the 3 of us. Each trying to meet some client's deadline.
Sheillah is shortlisting for the role of Assistant Procurement Manager with one of our clients. It's a relatively senior role considering how big this client is. They're listed in NSE. So, we never take chances. We are thorough in our process. Sheillah has over 500 CVs to go through, already done with 100. It's quite a manual process. Not because we cannot automate and make our work easier, but we know should we do that, over 70% candidates will never stand a chance. They will be spewed out. Why? Your CV looks so bad. You have not paid much attention to it. No content. No coherence. No structure. No communication. It's a piece of a mediocre document.
Sheillah spends less than 30 seconds scanning on each CV. Quite a short time but she's got a lot to go through. And this is not the only assignment on her desk. So far, of the 107 CVs she's looked, she has picked only 2 potential candidates.
Not that we don't have good, qualified and experienced candidates. But it's a labour of pain going through their CVs. You can hardly tell much from their CVs. So, we PASS.
We decided to assist candidates in CV writing when we sent our client a list of very good candidates for the role of Financial Accountant. They sent an email back that the candidates' CVs were too long and incoherent and that it didn't meet their requirements. So, all the candidates were disqualified. It was so sad for us especially that the candidates had waited with so much anticipation and we had spent hell of time to shortlist.
Yet when we tell candidates to talk to us we help them re-write their CVs, they're hesitant. Others say the Ksh 1,500 we charge is too much. You lose opportunities because of something so little. You need to talk to us. We've got dedicated Consultants who wakes up each day with a single intent - to help you craft winning CVs that gets you noticed and wins you interviews with prospective employers.
