In my 10 years as a HR consultant and business advisor, I have seen the need for people to get the right jobs for their career paths, dream careers they call it...and I have seen the struggle that businesses have in getting the right human resource.
My analysis however as I go through tens of CV's on a daily basis is sadly, the educational institutions. We have become a nation of "papers" not of value. And I can say this without fear of contradiction, we have made education a business and relegated life skills and value based education to the periphery.
Even sadder is the parents who toil for years, sacrifice and pay fees for some nondescript or obsolete courses. Where is the conscience of the educationist? Where the biggest need is to replace an empty mind with an open one? Now all we have is a crop of people that have more degrees than a thermometer but show no "heat" in the substance of their education.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of proper courses, proper graduates (whatever their level) but there is a crop of people who are condemned not because of the Grade they got after KCSE but the path they chose of enlightenment in education.
The CHE should really be put to task. What are they commissioning year in, year out? What reviews if any are they making of the industries and how are they advising the education sector? If you think changing the curriculum every 5 years (shorter now with changes in technology), try an irrelevant course. This is criminal, to let an unsuspecting person walk into a class and me schooled in stuff that is obsolete.
There are many many many opportunities for employment, whether directly or indirectly. These opportunities require the right training and the right experience.
