Last year, we successfully hosted the IKWA Women Football Tournament Season 1 at Police Band Grounds, bringing together 24 teams from Nairobi, Machakos, and Kiambu Counties. The tournament showcased the power of sports in empowering women and building community.

This year, the tournament returns bigger and better than before, welcoming more counties and more opportunities for women to shine.

Beyond honoring, celebrating, and recognizing outstanding women, the Independent Kenya Women Awards (IKWA) runs several community-focused programs aimed at empowering women and girls across Kenya.

One of the most impactful initiatives is the IKWA Women Football Tournament, which has become a strong pillar of our outreach programs. The tournament provides young girls and women with a powerful platform not only to showcase their talent in sports but also to raise awareness and speak about key social challenges affecting women in our communities.

Through this program, participants and community members openly engage in conversations around critical issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), reproductive health, access to education, early pregnancies, economic empowerment, and mental well-being. By combining sports with social advocacy, the tournament helps amplify voices that often go unheard while promoting unity, confidence, and leadership among women and girls.

This initiative reflects IKWA’s broader commitment to community engagement, awareness creation, and empowering women to become agents of change in society.
